> —Camp McDowell introduced its Photo
> Mini-Camp which was a huge success. Third through seventh
> grade students were introduced to the fundamentals of photography and
> the process of making a calendar from all of their photographs. Each
> day, students worked on techniques like how to use a camera properly,
> how to work with lighting, downloading photos to a file, and making a photo calendar.
>
> “I chose projects that I knew the students would love to learn” says
> Photo Mini-Camp Teacher Ms. Herrmann. “They had so much fun taking
> pictures, editing, and printing as well as seeing their final masterpiece!”
>
> “I learned so much during only five days of camp” says student
> Catherine Orihuela. “I was blown away with how easy it was and it
> showed me how to be creative and inspired me to continue!”
>
> At the end of this Mini Camp, Ms. Herrmann had students edit their
> pictures, decorate their calendars, and bind everything together.
> Camp McDowell continues to educate its campers through exciting
> activities like their photography camp. McDowell has proven that the
> summer can be a fun and exciting adventure while also being educational.

McDowell School has been a leader in private education in South Orange County for thirty years. McDowell appeals to parents who are seeking a small, energetic learning environment tailored to the needs of the student who is performing at age/grade levels or above. Our class composition and instructional programs are uniquely appropriate for students of average ability or above who are seeking peers and instructors to challenge them to achieve their full potential. In this climate of mutual respect we acknowledge the intellectual, social and emotional growth of each child.

Our preschool program is a structured program that offers a blend of academic and developmental activities. Our daily curriculum includes academic lessons in preparation for Kindergarten readiness, language arts, music and art exploration.

Classes at McDowell Elementary concentrate on core academics, and a well-rounded curriculum that includes music, spanish, art, physical education and computers skills. Each year, our students at each grade level routinely score significantly above average on the Sat 9 standardized tests.
McDowell Middle School students continue to flourish in our well-rounded environment where fine arts, Spanish, technology, cotillion, community service, and physical education are not elective options but part of their regular academic program.
