Over 200 members, families and guests recently attended the Mission Viejo, Saddleback Valley Elks installation of Officers. Outgoing Exalted Ruler Jim Humphrey expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the members for a very successful year. He praised his Corps of Officers and Committee workers for the numerous charitable accomplishments of the past twelve months. Humphrey singled out the Elks Bingo Charities Committee and acknowledged them for a record year of contributions to the hundreds of worthy causes in the Saddleback community. He also offered his congratulations to the incoming Corps of Officers, pledging his support and wishing them success in the coming year.
The new officers will be serving the Lodge for a term of one year. They are: Exalted Ruler (Lodge president) Pat Martino, Vice Presidents Leading Knight Gloria R. LeCouvre, Loyal Knight Roger Yarnell, and Lecturing Knight Ray Mallen. Also installed were: Secretary Charles Hart, Treasurer Oliver (Newt) Seal, Esquire Tom Schreck, Assistant Esquire Jason Spence, Chaplain Michael Alarcon, Inner Guard Derek Randles, Organist Andy Costello, Trustees: Gary Smith, Nancy Allen, Harvey Boelts, Tom Banning and Gary Bennington.
In his acceptance speech, newly elected Exalted Ruler Pat Martino said that his motto for the year will be, “Unity, Charity, Friendship”. Martino, who is well known in the Saddleback and Capistrano school districts for his work with Elks Third Grade Dictionary Program, also pledged to maintain the spirit of cooperation and involvement the Lodge has long enjoyed with the City of Mission Viejo and the communities of the Saddleback Valley.
The local Lodge is preparing to attend the State Elks Convention which will be held in San Diego May 12 to 15th. At that time a new State Vice President will be installed and four members of the Mission Viejo, Saddleback Valley Elks Lodge will assume chairmanships in the Orange County District. The Lodge was also honored by the announcement that 30 year member Andy Costello will be named to the position of Public Relations Chairman for the California/Hawaii Elks Association.
