Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens, a nonprofit southern California cultural center, is proud to announce its extension of the Open Casa exhibition Who was Nellie Gail Moulton? Pioneer, Artist and so much more. The exhibition, originally slated to be on view from March 13, 2020 to May 31, 2020, has been extended through September 6, 2020. Who was Nellie Gail Moulton? is a prominent collection of historic landscape paintings by Nellie Gail Moulton, matriarch of the historic Moulton family in south Orange County.
Nellie Gail Moulton was passionate about painting en plein air, with many of her works featuring seascapes and landmarks such as the Mission in San Juan Capistrano and Balboa Park in San Diego. As one of the first female artists on the scene when Laguna Beach attracted a colony of artists, Nellie was a founding member of the Laguna Beach Art Association (which later became Laguna Art Museum) in 1918, and served as their president from 1948-49. Having befriended and trained with fellow notable California artists such as William Wendt, Anna Hills, Frank Cuprien, and Edgar Payne, her work represents her affinity for nature and the California landscape.

Curated by Maurine St. Gaudens Studios, Who Was Nellie Gail Moulton? is the first comprehensive exhibition in over 50 years of artwork created by Nellie Gail Moulton. The art gallery featuring the exhibition was closed again on July 1, 2020, but is slated to re-open by July 25, 2020 in accordance to state safety and health guidelines. Who Was Nellie Gail Moulton? is free with general admission to Casa Romantica.
