On Saturday, February 22, 2014, The LDS Irvine Mission Choir performed a “Washington’s Birthday” Concert in Aliso Viejo.
President and leader of the Irvine Mission, President Von Origill felt that this choir would allow young missionaries of the LDS faith, in the South Orange County area, to share their “musical testimony” of the Savior.
Comprised of 80 young men and women, ages 18-23 years old, the Irvine Mission Choir was born. Missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints volunteer to serve and pay for their missions. Young Women may serve starting at age 19, serving for 18 months and young men start at 18, serving 24 months.
Over 500 people attended this first-ever public performance by the Choir .The concert began with a remarkable rendition of the Star Spangled Banner by Jon Huntington, member of the Choir Council and well known musician around South Orange County. The night continued with an array of both spiritual hymns and battle hymns.
The performance closed with a message from Laguna Niguel Stake President Robert Davis.
