
| The city of Aliso Viejo is now accepting applications for its annual Community Assistance Grant Program. Each year, the city contributes partial funding for selected community service programs and activities by not-for-profit organizations that provide valuable services to the community. The City Council is expected to consider and approve the requests in the spring. Community Assistance Grant Funding applications are available on the city’s website at www.cityofalisoviejo.com. | The Foster & Kinship Care Education and Aliso Viejo Family Resource Center are teaming up on Jan. 15 to host a special program designed to help kids gain the skills necessary for living a successful, independent life. The “Raising Kids Who are Prepared for the Real World” workshop is from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Aliso Viejo Conference Center. Participants will learn how to help kids recognize they are brilliant for staying connected to healthy parenting; the language children cannot resist; the parenting style children never outgrow; the difference between protecting versus preparing kids; and so much more. Council Member Carmen Cave will serve as Aliso Viejo’s mayor this year, the City Council decided on Wednesday. She will be joined by Council Member Phil Tsunoda who will serve as mayor pro tem. The council members were selected for the posts by their colleagues during the City Council’s annual reorganization, which followed the ceremonial swearing-in of Council Members Ross Chun and Mike Munzing. The mayor and mayor pro tem serve a one-year term. The Aliso Viejo City Council meets on the first and third Wednesday of the month in Council Chambers at City Hall, 12 Journey.
