The District has learned that six of its graduating seniors have accepted appointments to one of the four United States Military Academies.

Admission to these schools is among the most competitive in the country.

When Connor Panick applied to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, he was one of 1,500 accepted from a pool of over 20,000 candidates.

The Board of Trustees will recognize the following students for their extraordinary accomplishment at the June 25, 2014, meeting:

  • Dylan Struthers (SCHS), U.S. Naval Academy

Palisades Students Learning How to Make Beeswax Candles

On Tuesday, June 10, The Ecology Center hosted a group of 60 AP Environmental Science students from Dana Hills High School for a special Backyard Skills field trip with 100 4th grade students from Palisades Elementary School.

This collaborative field trip between Dana Hills High School, The Ecology Center, and Capistrano Unified School District is now in its third year with great success in two previous years.

Similar to last year, Dana Hills students are already busy preparing presentations to teach Palisades students four, hands-on ecological skills: making seed balls, composting, making recycled newspaper pots, and hand-dipping beeswax candles, along with the larger contexts for these activities.

To accompany their bagged lunches, students also sampled fresh harvested salad from The Ecology Center gardens.
