October 10-11, 2009
No, the recent fires did not burn it down….
A Corpus Christi tradition will once again warm our hearts…
Corpus Christi’s 2009 Autumn Mass and Hoe-down
Los Rios Orchard at Oak Glen, Sunday, October 25th
Just a few days before All Hallows Eve, come out and celebrate with family and friends as Corpus Christi celebrates an Autumn tradition of heading to beautiful Oak Glen for an afternoon of browsing the boutiques, orchards and bakeries of the mountain community. Following an afternoon of perusing, nibbling and harvesting, head over to Los Rios Orchard for our Autumn Mass in the Meadow at 4:30 p.m., followed by a BYO Picnic Dinner on the orchard grounds. Los Rios will keep their bakery and barbecue open for those who prefer to purchase items there rather than BYO. Following Mass/dinner, plan to linger as the 5-piece country-band takes the stage in the barn and the hills will echo with our festivity. Each family/individual is responsible for providing their own transportation, with the accompanying personal freedom of arriving and departing at ones’ personal leisure All this for only $8 per adult and $6 per child (over 2 and under 12)! Please RSVP no later than October 22nd! Autumn Mass and Hoe-Down Reservation forms are on the Concierge Shelves!
Remember….
Daylight Savings Time ends Sunday, November 1.
Hey DADs….
The registration forms for our next POPs event: ‘POPs Does Pucks’…a Duck’s Hockey game on Friday, November 27th (the day after Thanksgiving) are now out on the Concierge Shelves. The game starts at 1:00 p.m. and tickets are $17.00 each. So dads…instead of hitting the malls on ‘Black Friday’, how about grabbing your kids and escaping to Anaheim and watch the Ducks take on the Chicago Blackhawks? Reservation forms need to be returned by November 9th! Thanks.
Please note that Father Ken Rudnick S.J. will be celebrating the Saturday 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 8:00 a.m. Masses next weekend, October 17th and 18th.

Our Thanks and Appreciation
Are extended to the wonderful restaurants that fed us in such great abundance last weekend. In case you are looking for a place to dine, these are excellent choices for casual or upscale events. As you plan your autumn and holiday events, please remember: Stadium Brewery right here in Town Center, Salt Creek Grill at Crown Valley and PCH, Savannah Chophouse on Golden Lantern in Dana Point, Avila’s El Ranchito at Aliso Creek Road and La Paz, HUSH of Laguna Beach on PCH a few blocks form Main Beach and L’Hirondelle of San Juan Capistrano, directly across from the Mission Basilica. When making your reservations…make sure you let them know that you enjoyed their food at Corpus Christi….it’s a way to let them know of our appreciation. (Also, please note that Avila’s El Ranchito will donate back to Corpus Christi 15% of any holiday catering you order from them between now and the end of January!!!)
To help us ward off the effects of the upcoming cold and flu season, Corpus Christi will once again be offering FREE FLU SHOTS NEXT weekend, October 17-18, after all the Masses.
World Mission Sunday is really NEXT weekend, October 17-18, when we will be accepting a second collection. Sorry for the date mix up. Not unlike our outreach when we generously responded to Sr. Ruth’s appeal on behalf of her Religious Order in Sri Lanka and Africa, WORLD MISSION SUNDAY is bigger and broader in scope. It brings the Mission Appeals ‘season’ to a close, and it is one more opportunity to support those who have little. Even in the midst of our own economic upheavals, we do not come close to the desperate levels of impoverishment that exists in so many parts of the world. As is our custom, a basket will be placed on the altar at the end of the weekend Masses for your consideration…envelopes will be on the pews.
Please note a statement released by the Diocese of Orange Department of Human Resources:
‘Jonathan Kim has been placed on administrative leave pending investigation of accusations of inappropriate conduct.’
In a related development, please note as well that Mr. Paul Nguyen has accepted the position of Interim Music Director for Corpus Christi Music Ministry. He may be contacted at his office # 297-8515 or via his e-mail of Paulcnguyen@gmail.com.
Let the beer flow and the oompah band play…our neighbors are celebrating…
Our neighbor, St. Nicholas Parish, will host its annual OCTOBERFEST next Saturday, October 17th from 12:30 to 8:00 p.m. It will be celebrated in their new Parish Center located behind the Church. Feel free to join our neighbors for German food, imported beer, music by ‘Bavarian Stew’, a cash raffle drawing, silent auction…and more. For more info, please call 837-7676.
As autumn deepens, we honor those who have brightened our lives…and now shine in heaven…
Walking amidst the Christmas-filled glamour of Costco aisles, it would be easy to miss the weekend of October 31 – November 1 when we will commemorate All Saints and All Souls. November 1st, occurring as it does on a Sunday, we will be commemorating All Saints at ALL the weekend Masses. As is our tradition, we will also be commemorate ALL our beloved dead, be they official saints or simply saintly in our hearts, at all the Masses that weekend. Please note that we will commemorate All Souls Day on Monday, November 2nd with Mass at 8:00 a.m. Special All Souls envelopes are available on the Concierge Shelves by which you can list the names of your own cherished loved ones/family members you wish remembered at the Masses throughout November. Thanks.
Please note that our next food collection effort to benefit the South County Outreach Food Pantry will occur on the weekend of October 24-25. Bring your non-perishable food items on that weekend and drop them in the special hamper on the courtyard. Thanks.
