This summer Marion Meyer Contemporary Art has teamed up with saltfineart to bring you a show of cutting edge work from Latin America and Spain that’s not to be missed.
The artists featured – Quim Bové, Ronald Morán, Mayra Barraza and Luis Cornejo have not only been shown and collected in galleries across the globe, their work also represents the backbone of contemporary art from their respective regions, as evidenced by their countless museum and public art exhibitions.
Bové delves into the mysteries of the universe and the cyclical nature of human existence using color and exuberant abstraction. Morán addresses the silence of aggression by wrapping entire rooms, objects, and paintings in dense layers of white cotton whose benign appearance belies their true nature.
His installations at the Venice Biennale of 2007 launched him to international fame and recognition. Barraza, whose work was recently given top honors in the Muse um Of Latin American Art Awards, explores the realms of power – both personal and public, giving voice to the aftermath of war in a visual language so beautiful and poignant it transcends into the very private, existential questions that face humanity. With sold-out shows in 2007 and 2008, Cornejo continues to shock and delight as he challenges society’s devotion to outer beauty by creating a pop mix of textures – hyper realistic fashion models with playful proportions and luminous faces combined with two dimensional Disney like cartoon elements. On sabbatical for a year in Germany, the paintings to be exhibited represent the only available work of his in existence.
