Ocean Institute to Present Screenings of Two Ocean-Themed Movies for Children, Live Penguin among Special Guests

Dana Point, CALIF., August 7, 2012 – The Ocean Institute is pleased to present two special film screenings in conjunction with the West Coast Film Festival.

On Sunday, August 19, 1 p.m., the Institute will present a screening of the 2011 film Dolphin Tale.  The film stars Harry Connick, Jr., Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson and Morgan Freeman, and tells the story of a rescue and rehabilitation of a dolphin whose tail was lost in a crab trap.  It is based on a real-life story.  Dr. Julie Goldstein, a veterinarian who participated in the real-life effort to save the dolphin, and Betsy Landin, who portrays the character of Kat in the movie, will be part of the screening, sharing their thoughts on the dolphin rescue and the making of the movie.

On Wednesday, August 22, 4:30 p.m., the Institute will present a screening of the 2011 movie Happy Feet Two.  The film stars Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon Hank Azaria and Pink, and is a 3D computer-animated adventure in the penguin world.  The Institute will welcome a special guest speaker from the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, who will make remarks in conjunction with the film and bring along a live penguin as part of the presentation.

Founded in 1977, the Ocean Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to ocean preservation through education, setting the standard for educational excellence and serving as a leading resource for universities, museums, teachers and all others seeking to increase their knowledge of the ocean.  The Ocean Institute is open to the general public on weekends, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Cost:  $6.50 adults, $4.50 children (ages 4-12), Ocean Institute members free.
