Ocean Institute Welcomes Big Waves Surfers for Artist by the Sea Lecture Series
February 25, 2009, DANA POINT, Calif. – The Ocean Institute is pleased to welcome five world-class surfers who have taken on Goliaths of the Ocean: Big Waves of the North Pacific on Wednesday, April 15, 7 p.m.
Imagine what a 70-foot moving wall of water would look like with you on the very top of it. A place where mortality is contemplated and survival is necessary. Not a place for most of us. However, there is a small group of surfers who seek out waves of unimaginable proportions that redefine what we know to be humanly possible.
Sean Collins, Gary Linden, Gary Long, Jason Murray and Mike Parsons will discuss their surfing on the Big Waves on the breakers at the Cortes Bank to Mavericks, Waimea Bay, Todos Santos Islands and the Outer Reefs of the North Shore.
Questions and answers and will follow. The cost is $12 adults, $7 seniors (age 60+); children 12 and under and Ocean Institute members are free. Reservations required as seating is limited. To make a reservation, visit www.ocean-institute.org or call (949) 496-2274, ext. 611.
