Olympica Gymnasts Shine in Colorado Springs

Date:

The competitive team from Olympica Gymnastics Academy traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado this past weekend to compete in the Pikes Peak Cup at The Broadmoor Resort. These gymnasts experienced much success at this meet.

Level 9 gymnast, Natalie Bray of Dana Point, took the gold on floor exercise with a 9.475 in the senior division. She also took the silver on vault with a 9.050. Zita Conot (Mission Viejo) took the bronze on floor exercise with a 9.325 in the junior division. Both of these gymnasts qualified for the event finals later that evening, and Natalie took home the bronze with a personal best score of 9.550. Their teammate, Sarah Quan (Ladera Ranch), received the bronze on floor with a 9.025 in the senior division.

The Level 8 team took home the third place team award and had several individual top finishers. In the child division, Julia Rojas (San Clemente) took the gold on uneven bars with a 9.775, and Kaitlyn Driessen of Rancho Mission Viejo took gold on the vault with a 9.625. Teammate Reagan Johnson, also from San Clemente, placed second on floor with a 9.225 in the senior division. In the junior division, Madison Thrall (Lake Forest) placed third on beam with a 9.200. Earning the team award resulted in a donation being made to the Nastia Liukin Fund in their honor. (The Nastia Liukin Fund supports clubs that aid athletes who need financial assistance to become and remain involved in gymnastics.)

Level 7 gymnast, Cameron Craycraft of Ladera Ranch had several podium finishes in the senior division. She placed second on floor with a 9.525, third on beam with a 9.125, and third All-Around with a 36.025.  Teammate Misha Parsons of Dana Point took the bronze on vault with a score of 8.800.

Level 6 gymnast, Kylie Phillips (Laguna Niguel), had an excellent meet.  She took home silver on bars with a 9.600, silver on vault with an 8.850, bronze on beam with a 9.300, and silver in the All-Around with an impressive 37.200 in the child division. Teammates Bela Block from Aliso Viejo took the silver on beam with a 9.475, and Addison Malue of Mission Viejo took the silver on vault with an 8.800 in the junior division. The level 6 team took the third place team award, and a contribution was also made in their name to the Nastia Liukin Fund.

The next competition for these ladies is the California Classic in San Diego, which takes place February 22-24.
