Open auditions are being held for “Mormon Night” in the Dodger Stadium – Singer Will Be Selected

Date:

Contest Seeks LDS Singer to Perform at Dodger Stadium

Erin Jones – LDS Living

It all started with Susan Boyle. When Sonja Eddings Brown of Church Public Affairs saw the singer’s breakthrough on Britain’s Got Talent, Brown thought of all the talented LDS singers in the world who “never had a chance before.”

“We know we have a lot of talent out there, but we don’t always have a safe pathway for them to be discovered,” said Brown.

Now, one LDS singer will get a chance to live their dreams.

Open auditions are being held for “Mormon Night” in the Dodger Stadium. A singer will be selected to represent the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by singing the National Anthem at Dodger Stadium.

Anyone 18 years of age or older who has previously performed in public and who is recommended by their local bishop can apply for the contest. Contestants must submit a recorded performance of the National Anthem and another favorite song of their choice on a CD or DVD.

If selected as a finalist, contestants must be available during July for live auditions in Salt Lake City or Los Angeles. On winning, they must also be available to perform in Los Angeles on August 6, at their own expense.

The winner of the contest will receive $1500 along with the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at Dodger Stadium on August 6. The winner will be recorded as part of the game broadcast, and will receive a DVD and still photographs of the event.

A big motivation in the contest is the possibility of getting discovered. Both the winner and finalists will receive a unique opportunity to audition for Deseret Book’s Shadow Mountain Records.

Finalists will also receive cash rewards and VIP seating at the game.

Brown said that the contest serves the church in two ways: it is a way to find out where the church’s talent is, and it is a chance to find somebody who can positively represent the church.

“It just kind of swings the door open for people who need an opportunity,” said Brown.

Submissions must be received by June 15. Find more information and the application at deseretbook.com/dodgers.
