“Behind the Orange Curtain” is a powerful, award-winning film that offers a harrowing look behind the deadly trend of prescription drug abuse among Orange County teens, and a free screening of this documentary will be held on Tuesday, June 24 at St. Kilian Church.
The event takes place at 7 p.m., and will also feature presentations from agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and the Orange County Health Care Agency, who will speak to the scope of local trends, and offer empowering prevention strategies for parents and teens.
This scourge of prescription drug abuse has been classified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a nationwide epidemic, and South Orange County has not been immune to its effects.
“Parents and teens are encouraged to join us for this poignant video to encourage family discussion. Communication between parents and youth is crucial,” said Tammy Descoteaux, City of Mission Viejo Community Outreach Coordinator. “It lays essential groundwork for healthy decision-making among teens.”
The event is hosted by St. Kilian’s Religious Education, and will be at 26872 Estanciero. Admission is free, but RSVPs are requested to Cindy Hurley at skre@cox.net or (949) 586-4550.
