Passage of Prop. 30 Solidifies School Calendars
Last Day of Instruction Remains Tuesday, June 11, 2013
Passage of Proposition 30 in last week’s election guarantees that the Capistrano Unified School District students will have 175 days of instruction and employees will not face additional steep reductions in pay, Superintendent Joe Farley announced. The last day of school for students will be Tuesday, June 11, 2012. “We are grateful that the voters of California have chosen to support education,” Farley said. “By keeping the instructional calendar at 175 days, we will be better positioned to ensure that our students achieve the academic success that we desire. In addition, our employees will not have to sacrifice even more than they already have.” In 2010-2011 and 2011-2012, the District offered 180 days of instruction, above the state minimum of 175 days. This year, facing a budget deficit of $30 million, the District negotiated employee concessions that include reduced salaries, instructional and non-instructional furlough days, and increased health benefit contributions. The 2012-2013 school year calendar can be found here (pdf).
