Phantom of the Opera Q and A with cast member Quinto Ott

Date:

Quinto is a Singer/Actor/ from Arizona and based in NYC. He is an operatically trained basso and is currently on the road with the national tour of the new production of The Phantom of the Opera. He plays the role of  Don Attilio.

Aliso Laguna News wants to thank Quinto Ott for taking the time to share some of his thoughts on his singing career. He also gives some insight into being in Segerstrom’s “Phantom of the Opera”.

Q and A:

Q:   How did you feel the first time you were cast for the role of Don Attilio!.  What is the back story on this.

A:   I was at The Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara working on some operas and found out I had been cast.  I had been unable to make it to the auditions in NYC, so I  sent in a video submission…I was obviously very pleasantly surprised when I got the call.

Q:   How have you made this character your own, after playing him for nearly four years.

A:  I was very lucky to be a member of the original company and to originate the role of Don Attilio in this production.  We had the opportunity to spend a month in a rehearsal room in New York before heading out on the road.  We were all able to build our characters from the ground up with the incredible creative team.

Q:  At what point in your life did you feel that Opera was for you!

A:   I have been singing since before I can remember and have always wanted to be a performer.  I love both opera and theatre and all sorts of other styles of music. I started doing children’s theatre and other shows around 5th grade. I did some plays and some musicals and also sang in several choirs at church and with the Tucson Boys Choir.  When I was in 7th grade I started studying classical singing and I worked with that teacher (Korby Myrick) until I went to Indiana University.  I majored in Theatre, Musical Theatre, and Classical Vocal Performance.   (I also have a degree in costume and fashion design)

Q:  Who has been your biggest supporter throughout your career?

A:   My family has always been my biggest support system.  They have traveled all over the country and the world to come to cheer me on.  I am very blessed to have such incredible friends and family!

Q:    Do you miss Southern California, or are you now a total New Yorker!

A:   I was born in Pasadena, but only lived there for a very short time.  We moved to Mexico when I was 6 months and then we eventually relocated back to Tucson, AZ (where both of my parents are from). I have lived in NYC for a decade now.
