When the City’s annual Founder’s Day Fair takes place from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, October 3 at the Aliso Viejo Ranch, patrons will be in for a real treat. Along with old-fashioned games, mechanical rides and delectable fare, this year’s event will feature a popular local rockabilly band, The Altar Billies.
The Altar Billies will be the highlight of the fair performing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fronted by Michael W. Stand on guitar, Johnny X on upright and drummer Chuck Cummings, the group covers many classic hits and newly penned originals. The Altar Billies are part of a growing trend blending “alt-country,” rockabilly and swing for a new and progressive sound that also lends itself to the past.
For the last 7 years, the group has performed family-friendly music throughout Southern California at venues such as the Orange County Fair, Anaheim House of Blues, Coach House and the Observatory, among others. The group has also opened for several legendary rockabilly performers including Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats.
The City’s Founder’s Day Fair takes place at 100 Park Avenue, just across from Aliso Viejo Middle School. Admission is free, with nominal fees for certain activities and food.
