South Orange County Chamber Recommends Opposition to yet another Surcharge
Laguna Hills, CA….The South Orange County Regional Chamber of Commerce announced today its opposition to Proposition 21, which would establish an $18 annual vehicle license surcharge to help fund State Parks and Wildlife programs.
“We just can’t keep adding and adding to the pile of taxes, fees and surcharges that are drowning our state’s businesses and stifling job creation, argued Duane Cave, member of the Regional Chamber’s Executive and Governmental Affairs Committees. “At some point, we have to say ‘enough is enough,’ particularly in this troubled economy.”
Cave continued, “While our state parks are vital to the overall quality of life we enjoy here in California, we don’t see why every vehicle owner in the state should be required to pay. This particularly hurts small businesses which is why we’re opposed.”
While the South Orange County Regional Chamber of Commerce does not endorse candidates, it does endorse for or against local and statewide measures that members feel will impact the region’s businesses. The Governmental Affairs Committee voted on the recommendations of the Proposition Sub-committee then submitted the entire slate of positions for approval by the Chamber’s Corporate Board of Directors. The Regional Chamber will announce positions on all statewide propositions throughout the month of September.
