Saddleback College Hosted
Speech and Debate Cool-Off Tournament
Mission Viejo. The speech and debate team’s season for Saddleback College is coming to a close but the coaches and students were still hard at work on the weekend of April 28-29th for the Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association (PSCFA) Cool-Off Tournament held at Saddleback College. This tournament is an opportunity for new students to experience collegiate speech and debate for the first time.
The last time Saddleback hosted this special tournament was in 1986, and it was an honor to bring the yearly tournament back to Saddleback. Over 34 colleges and universities participated in debate and individual speaking events, and 275 students participated in 15 different speaking events. Overall, the tournament ran smoothly thanks to the hard work of the students and coaching staff. The final speech tournament will take place at Mt. San Antonio College on May 5-6th. This competition is the American Reader’s Theatre Association Tournament, and two of the nationally ranked theatres from Saddleback will attempt to garner more awards capping a very successful year.
Individual Results:
Silver Medal in Debate – Daniel Treffrey and Daniel Murphy
Finalists in Persuasion – Anthony Dibernado, Madison Csizer, Michelle Ruiz, Afsoon Mohammed and Therese Bennett
