San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, partnered with the San Diego Blood Bank and Hoag to host a blood drive at seven SDCCU locations throughout San Diego and Orange County, collecting more than 138 pints of much-needed blood, which equals roughly 414 lives saved.
The blood drive comes at a time where the blood inventory is critically low heading into the busy summer season. Summer is a challenging time for blood centers because while the demand for blood often increases, they tend to see a decline in donations as the high school and college resources they rely on often fail to donate during the summer break. Additionally, many people are on vacation during this time of year so sponsors have a tendency to hold fewer blood drives which strain the already stretched on-hand supply.
