REMINDER TOMORROW IS A NON-STUDENT DAY Friday, October 4, 2013 there is no school for students.  This is an instructional furlough day for teachers.

The AVMS staff will be working at On The Border as servers for AVMS families.  Stop by On the Border from 4:00-9:00 PM and your teachers will be your servers.  This is always a very popular night, so feel free to call ahead and make reservations.  25% of every bill (including drinks) goes straight to AVMS.  Attached is the flyer for you to take so that On the Border knows you are an AVMS family.  We hope to see you there!

NEED A HOLIDAY PHOTO – JACK RANDALL PHOTOGRAPHY FUNDRAISER – DUE NEXT WEEK Support Aliso Viejo Middle School and gain beautiful family portraits!  When you sign up for our fundraiser, 100% of your session fee and qualifying percentage of net studio profits are donated to AVMS!  Attached is the flyer.  Turn in flyers to Mrs. Thomas in the front office. Due by October 11th.

FEDERAL SURVEY OF RESIDENCE Yesterday your child was sent home a copy of the Federal Survey of Residence form.  Please complete and return to the school’s front office no later than Monday, October 7, 2013.  Attached you will find a PDF of the form, in case you need another copy.

RECYCLING THURSDAYS * FILL THE BIN

We had an another awesome week! We have almost filled the first bin! Can you spare 1 hour once a month?

WOW!! What a great start!!! Thank you to everyone that saved up over the summer.   This is an easy way to help your school as well as the environment and it is easy to do. We receive about $1000 every time we fill the bin.  We collect from 9:00 AM – 9:45 AM on Thursdays. Bring your PLASTIC BOTTLES, ALUMINUM CANS to the grey Recycling Bin located at the far end of the parking lot. Just pull up in front of the bin and we will unload your car.

Rules: NO Glass; plastic water bottles and aluminum cans only; must have the CA cash code on them; tape a sign on your bag with your Name and 1st period Teacher; drop off at the Recycling Bin; have your bag weighed and recorded by AVMS students.

Rewards: Each semester top contributors will receive rewards as well as weekly rewards for all contributors (front of the line pass, free wheel spin and more).

We are still in need of parent volunteers on a rotating schedule. Commitment is only 1 hour 1 time a month (9-10am Thursdays) if we get 4 parents. Please email amanda@atmerit.com if you can help.

FALCON SERVICE AWARDS

The Moulton Elementary PTA is looking for volunteers for their 35th Annual Boo Blast!  This would qualify as “Community Service” for the Falcon Service Awards.  Students would need to commit to working for a minimum of a two hour shift in the game booths, food concessions, rides and other attractions.  They would be supervised by a Moulton parent volunteer.  Students should bring their Falcon Service Application Logs to the event for sign off by the PTA. BOX TOPS – Keep clipping those box tops and turn in to your social science teacher.  Every ten = a front of the line pass.

AVMS ROBOTICS TEAM SEEKING SPONSORS The robots are coming!  The robots are coming!  Last year AVMS’s robotics club placed 23rd at the World Robotics Championships and now robotics is a year-long elective at AVMS.  This year AVMS will be putting two robotics teams together to compete in the REC-VEX IQ Add it Up challenge.  Student teams will design and build a robot that attempts to maximize their points during the challenge and attempt to qualify for the World Robotics Championship in Anaheim this spring.  Do you know of a STEM company that might be interested in sponsoring one of our teams?  If so please contact Mr. Groothuis at mdgroothuis@capousd.org.

FALCON SERVICE AWARD HOURS Students wanting to earn Falcon Service Award hours are welcome to join Mrs. Ortiz at lunch time on Wednesdays to work on the science garden.  Any AVMS student is welcome!

PTSA REFLECTIONS Does your student have artistic talent? Then urge him or her to participate in the 2013 PTSA Reflections art program! The categories include literature, photography, visual arts, musical composition, dance choreography and film production, and this year’s theme is “Believe, Dream, Inspire.” Details and forms are available in the front office or at www.avmsptsa.org under PTA programs and Reflections. Entries are due in the front office by 3:30pm Fri., Oct. 18 for judging and awards. Winning entries move on to district judging. Any questions? Email Angela Geiser at anggeiser@yahoo.com.

INK AND TONER CARTRIDGE RECYCLING AVMS is recycling used ink cartridges and toner cartridges.  There is a box in the front office where you may place used cartridges.
