SEAWORLD AT EARTHFAIR 2011: SeaWorld will show San Diegans what the park’s Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Program is all about during the 21st annual EarthFair in Balboa Park, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 17. Some of the park’s animal care specialists will be on hand to talk about how SeaWorld rescues an average of 200 stranded sea lions, seals, pelicans and other marine species each year, giving a second chance to animals that would otherwise not survive.
The interactive booth will include a game that illustrates how ocean animals get injured by items such as fishing hooks and plastic trash bags and kids will also get to see SeaWorld’s rescue truck. San Diego’s EarthFair in Balboa Park is the largest free annual environmental fair in the world.

SEAWORLD CELEBRATES GREEN WEEK: SeaWorld will celebrate Green Week, April 18–24, with a variety of activities designed to encourage employees to conserve, recycle and make a difference in the environment. The park’s “Environmental Team,” made up of employees from several departments, helps to increase awareness of important environmental issues for employees and their families. Topics include recycling, community involvement in environmental improvements, ways to save energy and water at home and work, composting and more. This year is the 41st Anniversary of Green Week. Activities during the week will include water-wise landscape information, games and more.
SEAWORLD CELEBRATES WORLD PENGUIN DAY: On Sunday, April 24 SeaWorld will celebrate World Penguin Day outside of the Penguin Encounter from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Activities will include children’s crafts, educational presentations and the opportunity to see Magellanic penguins and their keepers up close on a special stage. Special “penguin art” will also be on sale with all proceeds to benefit the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund. World Penguin Day coincides with the annual northern migration of penguins. SeaWorld’s Penguin Encounter is home to more than 300 penguins representing five Antarctic and sub-Antarctic species including emperor, king, gentoo, macaroni and Adélie. The penguins swim and waddle in the 24-degree, snow-filled Encounter. Magellanic penguins, a warm-weather species native to Chile and Argentina, frolic outside.
SEAWORLD HELPS WITH COASTLINE CLEANUP: SeaWorld will join volunteers from all over the county for this year’s I Love a Clean San Diego’s Creek to Bay Cleanup, 9 a.m. to noon, April 30. As one of the site captains of the event, SeaWorld will oversee the cleaning of the Mission Bay-South Shores Boat Launch. Since its inception in 2003, the Creek to Bay Cleanup has drawn more than 17,000 volunteers, who have removed close to one million pounds of trash and recyclables, covering 679 miles of San Diego’s inland areas and coastal shorelines.
