Soka University has opened volunteer recruitment for ushers and patron assistants at its new 1,000 seat state-of-the-art Soka Performing Arts Center.   The Center’s premiere season will open on September 17th with a black tie-optional concert starting at 8:00 pm featuring Carl St. Clair and the Pacific Symphony, with pianist Horacio Gutierrez as soloist.  A champagne reception will follow the Grand Opening performance.

Volunteers are needed for ushering and assisting patrons throughout the season. The concert hall’s volunteers are being recruited from Soka University’s students, faculty, staff, and residents of surrounding  communities.

Volunteers should be:

~At least high school age, friendly and outgoing
~Able to work 3 to 4 hour shifts several times a month
~Willing to stay active as a Concert Hall volunteer for at least one year

Interested volunteers should complete the online Volunteer Interest Form located at www.performingarts.soka.edu/volunteer or email their name, address and telephone number to volunteer@soka.edu.

The first orientation meetings for new volunteers will be on Friday, September 9th and Wednesday, September 14th at 7 pm at the Soka Performing Arts Center, 1 University Drive, Aliso Viejo.  All volunteers must attend at least one of these meetings.  Essential information about the concert hall and volunteer schedules will be presented, along with introductions from the Center’s General Manager, David Palmer, and Patron Manager, Lee Davis.

Soka University is a private, four-year liberal arts college and graduate school located on 103-acres overlooking a wilderness park in Aliso Viejo, CA.  SUA offers a 9:1 student/faculty ratio and study abroad for every undergraduate student.  Soka University is founded upon the Buddhist principles of peace, human rights and the sanctity of life and is open to top students of all nationalities and beliefs.  About half of SUA’s students come from the US and half from more than 40 other countries.  SUA offers a free tuition program to qualified admitted BA students whose parent’s annual earned family income is $60,000 or less.
