The Mission Viejo Saddleback Valley Elks brought back the 1950’s with their tribute to everyone’s favorite, Bob’s Big Boy. Big Boy was started as Bob’s Pantry in 1936 by Bob Wian in Glendale, California. The restaurants became known as “Bob’s, Home of the Big Boy Hamburger” and then Bob’s Big Boy. With 121 Bob’s Big Boy restaurants currently throughout the U.S., the Elks brought the flavor of Bob’s to the Lodge.
Over 150 members and guests enjoyed Double-deck burgers, fries, salad with Boys Classic Blue Cheese dressing and of course chocolate or vanilla milkshakes. Guests dressed-up in 1950’s garb and danced to the sounds of Jim “Hey Elvis” Mouth. Exalted Ruler, Mike Klinger, stated, “after five years of being absent, the Elks brought back a member favorite, the Big Boy, a fundraiser to support the lodge building account. Thank you to everyone that participated, dressed up in style and made our Elks event a success”. The guests weren’t the only ones dressed up. All dining tables were adorned with Bob’s Big Boy figures sitting atop 33 record albums. In the Best Dressed Contest, Travis Eldred won for the men and Amy Keran, daughter of Lecturing Knight, Lane Keran, tied for the win with Garden Grove Elk Jane. Thank you to the Elks volunteers that helped with set-up and to our kitchen crew that made the 5s return to the lodge.

The Mission Viejo/Saddleback Valley Elks Lodge #2444 is celebrating 49 years of service to Saddleback Valley Communities. It is one of 10 lodges in the Orange Coast District of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) whose headquarters is in Chicago, Illinois.
