BACKGROUND:
Founded in 1990, StandUp For Kids is a national, non-profit organization
dedicated to improving the lives of homeless and at-risk youth. There are more than one
million homeless children and teens in the United States. Many are without a parent or
guardian, while others are victims of abuse or neglect. Through a national network made
up almost entirely of volunteers, StandUp For Kids reaches out to homeless children
and teens, and equips them with the tools they need to transition from life on the street to
lives of stability and opportunity. In addition to basic necessities such as food,
clothing and shelter, StandUp For Kids provides rescued youth with a variety of services,
including health care, education assistance and life skills training. Most importantly,
StandUp For Kidsworks to fulfill the most vital need of all: to know that someone
cares and wants to help.
