AWESOME YOUNG TALENT OF PACIFIC SYMPHONY
YOUTH WIND ENSEMBLE OPENS 2010-11 SEASON WITH
“TEA AND TRUMPETS,” FEATURING MUSIC BY HOLST AND GRAINGER
—Music written for and by the British becomes the focus of Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble’s (PSYWE) first concert of the 2010-11 season, led by Music Director Joshua Roach with the artistic vision of Pacific Symphony Music Director Carl St.Clair.
PSYWE—made up of musicians ages 12 to 21—performs “Tea and Trumpets,” featuring works from the core wind ensemble canon. First, Holst’s “Jupiter” cavorts and twirls in a movement from “The Planets,” followed by the countryside folksongs of England—Themes from “Green Bushes,” “Colonial Song,” and “Shepherd’s Hey!”—written by Grainger, an Australian who adored British culture. The concert concludes with Holst’s “First Suite for Band,” a cornerstone in the concert band repertoire.
The concert takes place Sunday, Dec. 12, at 4 p.m. at San Juan Hills High School in San Juan Capistrano. Tickets are $18 general admission; for more information or to purchase tickets, call (714) 755-5799 or visit www.PacificSymphony.org.
