Grow Your Business with Gratitude, Team Women!
In the midst of the holiday season, it is easy to feel stressed and overwhelmed. There is a lot of value to be gained from taking time to stop, breathe and express gratitude for what we have in life.
The following advice is from the Daily Teachings of The Secret:
“The more you practice gratitude the more deeply you will feel it in your heart and the depth of the feeling is the key. The more deeply and sincerely you feel it, the more happiness you will bring to yourself in every single area. Watch what happens in your life when you practice gratitude at every opportunity, every single day.”
In January, Team Women will celebrate its fifth anniversary and I personally am grateful for so many things. I opened my first chapter in Carlsbad when I was a brand new wine consultant and did not have anyone to sell my wine to. When I worked with the Direct Selling Women’s Alliance on the book, More Build it Big, I had the opportunity to speak to the creme de la creme of the industry and I asked each of them what contributed most to their success. Each one mentioned the power of networking.
In my previous life as a realtor, I had never heard of that and instead grew a successful business by ‘cold calling.’ Just the other day, I did the math and determined over a three year period I spoke to over 75,000 people beginning with the question “When do you plan on moving?” When I changed careers to coaching and wine, I felt I had already done enough cold calls to last a lifetime and decided to learn about networking and my life has been changed forever.
A lot of people don’t understand belonging to a networking group is part of the ‘marketing’ part of your business plan. Every day in business we need to be marketing and that lasts as long as we are in business. It is the same thing with networking.
Networking is NOT an event, it is a long term process. The stronger you build those relationships over time, the more value you will receive in your business.
At a recent meeting of my Carlsbad Chapter, our president asked to share what Team Women has meant to us personally and professionally and I was not the only one who cried. After almost 5 years, we have many or our original members and they are still receiving referrals.
In the past month, I gave two outside referrals both involving my mom. My mom called and asked “What is the number for the florist in your group?” She contacted Allison and ordered flowers for her friend’s 75 birthday. And then just this past week, my mom was told by her doctor she had to go on a special diet and he had referred someone to her who could get the products for her. Ix-nay on that, Suzanne in my chapter is with the same company and my mom agreed to use the services of the Team Women member. I sent an e-mail to Suzanne who immediately called my mom and they will be working together in January.
Do I have referrals every week? No, of course not. When the opportunity arises do I always refer to my Team? Absolutely! Team Women provides the structure and the administrative support for your chapter. As a member, it is your responsibility to invite guests to attend your meetings and follow up with them afterwards and invite them to join.
Part of your commitment is to attend each meeting, be on time and be present for your Team both physically and mentally. It does not work to join a networking group, sit back and wait for the business to come to you.
Working hard to find business for your chapter members and following up quickly and professionally with leads given to you will pay you back ten-fold. I am grateful for the women in my chapter and their commitment to helping me grow my business.
Take some time to thank the members of your chapter who have trusted you with their friends and family. And strengthen your commitment to doing even more for others in 2010. I promise your business will grow as a result.
