iPalpiti Orchestra “United Nations of Classical Music” Brings Together 20 Countries
16th Annual iPALPITI FESTIVAL of INTERNATIONAL LAUREATES, July 11-28
Soka Performing Arts Center, Sunday, July 21 at 2:00 PM
“… Eduard Schmieder, the founder of the admirable iPalpiti, believes that music remains a functional universal language… Schmieder is an authoritative conductor. A tall and serious Russian of the old school, he goes in for intense expression and dug-in string sonorities…” – Los Angeles Times, Mark Swed, Chief Music Critic (2010)
The acclaimed iPalpiti orchestral ensemble of international laureates will be in residence at the Soka Performing Arts Center from July 15-21, with a concert on Sunday, July 21, at 2:00pm. The concert program will feature iPalpiti alumnus, State Soloist of Romania violinist Alexandru Tomescu. Under the direction of Maestro Eduard Schmieder, this acclaimed ensemble of prize-winning musicians from around the globe performs to sold-out audiences in major concert halls throughout the world. This summer they arrive in Los Angeles from Azerbaijan, Israel, Austria, Norway, Turkey, Poland, Germany, and beyond.

This concert is part of the 16th annual iPalpiti Festival. From July 11 -28, 16 concerts and special events will be presented in prestigious venues located in Aliso Viejo, Encinitas, Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, culminating in a performance at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on Saturday, July 27 at 8p.m. Performing since 1999, iPalpiti will once again hold summer residence in Beverly Hills with its highly anticipated annual concert at the historic Greystone Mansion on July 24. Expanding throughout the southland, iPalpiti returns (after oversold concerts last summer) to Encinitas, featuring seven soloists in daily concerts from July 11-14 at their new Library with ocean views
Alexandru Tomescu,“A Violin Superstar” (Berliner Morgenpost), was last heard with iPalpiti at Carnegie Hall and at Walt Disney Concert Hall in 2007. He will dazzle the audience with Marc-Olivier Dupin Variations Sur La Traviata de Verdi (Arias from Verdi’s Traviata), and in solo recitals “Pagannini:Devil or Angel?” at LACMA and in the Inaugural Season iPalpiti Concert Series at Leo Frankel Concert Hall in Beverly Hills. The grand-finale program will open with CPE Bach Sinfonia, continue with Langsamer Satz – a miniature maserpiece inspired by love – by Anton Webern (contemporary and student of the 20th-century revolutionary Schoenberg), ending with Tchaikovsky’ glorious Souvenir de Florence.
iPalpiti Artists International, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1997 by Eduard and Laura Schmieder, internationally renowned violinists and music educators, with the blessing and support of the late Lord Yehudi Menuhin, legendary musician, humanitarian, and a Founding Member and Honorary Artistic Advisor. The Advisory Board includes distinguished artists such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Yefim Bronfman, Ida Haendel, Gary Karr, Gidon Kremer and Wynton Marsalis. With their guidance, iPalpiti discovers and promotes talented young professional artists from around the globe.
The iPalpiti [ee-PAHL-pit-ee is Italian for heartbeat] Orchestra (founded by Eduard Schmieder in 1991) became a flagship ensemble of iPalpiti Artists International in 1999. iPalpiti’s humanitarian mission of cultural exchange succeeded in creating a truly universal network of over 200 artists from all over the world, promoting international and cultural understanding through music.
During the summer each year, iPalpiti brings twenty-five to thirty of these exceptionally gifted professional musicians to its home-base in Los Angeles, California for the prestigious iPalpiti Festival of International Laureates where members perform in solo, ensemble, and orchestral public concerts. iPalpiti artists, often referred to as the “Musical Peace Corps,” hold claim to over 100 international competition awards. iPalpiti is internationally recognized for its breathtaking performances in Japan, Israel, Holland, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy, to name a few. “Classical music is the spiritual factor which brings people together and unites them irrespective of religion and culture, appealing to sublime senses,” states Maestro Eduard Schmieder.
