Dear Bergeson Bulldogs,
The Bergeson team and I would like to welcome you to the 2013-14 school year. We are truly looking forward to seeing our Bulldogs on Monday, and we know that it is going to be a great year! We can’t wait to see you!
Mrs. Barbara Scholl
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL SCHEDULE: The first day of school for grades 1 – 5 will be from 7:45 am – 11:50 am. For Kindergarten, the first day is a parent/student orientation day and the schedule will be mailed to you this coming week. Kindergarten students come to school with their parents on this first day of school for orientation. Early Bird Kindergarteners: 7:45 – 9 am. Late Bird: 9:15 – 10:30 am. Kindergarten (including Mrs. Brewer’s Kinder/1st class) will meet at the classroom. All other 1st – 5th grade classes will meet on the playground. Your teacher’s name will be on a chair where you’ll line up. We can’t wait to see you on the first day of school on Monday. We’ve missed you!
THANK YOU FOR HONORING OUR CLASS PLACEMENTS: As educators, we know that it is imperative to have balanced classes that consider, among other things: academic ability, behavior, responsibility, gender, and parental involvement. Our students are heterogeneously grouped at all grade levels with consideration given to interests, learning styles, and above all, academic needs. Our primary obligation is to create instructional environments that maximize the educational opportunities for all students. Please understand that all of our teachers work together to ensure that the curriculum is exceptional within each grade level and that all children receive an excellent education. We work very hard to consider each child’s individual needs when we form classes and we ask that you will trust our professional judgment. An added challenge we have is that sometimes the number of students who show up during the first week of school may be different from what we anticipated, which may necessitate adding a teacher or combining classes. For this reason, all class placements are considered preliminary for the first two weeks of school until we have a clearer picture of our enrollment. Classroom changes will not be considered until after this initial period. At that time, any requests must be made in writing to the principal. The school will then determine the appropriate placement. Thank you for your patience as we settle into a wonderful new school year.
OC REGISTER: On the first day of school, a reporter and/or photographer from the Orange County Register will be on campus to chronicle the day. These photos and stories may appear in local newspapers. If you do not want your child photographed or interviewed, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can work with the media to avoid your child being photographed. If you have any questions or concerns about the presence of the Register on the first day of school, please contact me directly. It’s an exciting time of year and everyone wants to celebrate with us!
FIND OUT YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER ONLINE – You can find out your child’s 2013-14 school year teacher by accessing your child’s online Parent Portal account. If you have not created a Parent Portal account, click here to review a short video on how to set up a Parent Portal account for your child. HELP BERGESON EARN MONEY FROM TARGET BY VOTING FOR US Target is giving away up to $5 million dollars to schools ($10,000 max per school) in a program called “Give with Target.” All you have to do is Vote online, once per week at the following website: https://givewith.target.com/ – choose BERGESON as your school to support. Tell your family and friends and everyone on Facebook to vote for Bergeson School! We currently have 45 votes ($45), and then for EVERY VOTE we get $1 more. Please hurry and vote – this opportunity ends September 21st, or when the $5 million is reached, whichever comes first.
PAPER DRIVE ON 9/9: The kick-off for our annual Copy Paper Drive will be 9/9, the first day of school and will end on 9/20. As a tradition at Bergeson, we have a classroom competition to see which classroom can bring in the most copy paper at the beginning of school. The winning class gets to go on a walking field trip to have a free lunch at TGI Friday’s on Greenfield! Our generous families and this paper drive have helped us to save our instructional supply money for valuable materials for the classrooms instead of spending this funding on paper. Last year, we were able to make it all the way through March without purchasing boxes of copy paper! Keep your eyes out for the Back to School specials so that you can help your child’s classroom and help our school, too.
RALPH’S REWARDS CARD: Each year, our Bergeson Foundation raises $7,000 – $8,000 by having families register their Ralph’s Rewards Card and use it at the checkout. On or after September 1, you will need to reregister your card so that our favorite Bergeson School will continue to receive these wonderful donations. As of 9/1, our school will not receive the rewards anymore until you reregister. There are two ways to register: either go online to www.ralphs.com OR take the scan code into the store when you shop. COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS – CUSD teachers and administrators have been attending various educational workshops over the summer regarding the Common Core State Standards. Virtually all 50 states have adopted the Common Core State Standards. Having the same standards helps students learn at a high level, even if they change schools or move to a different state. The Common Core State Standards were developed by the National Governors Association and the Council of the Chief State School Officers in an effort to have a focused curriculum that will equip students for college and career readiness, the 21st century world, and success beyond formal schooling. Click here for further information on the Common Core State Standards.
A FACE LIFT FOR THE MPR? Next time you’re in the MPR (Multi-Purpose Room), take a close look. 3 of the walls were replaced because there was some water damage at the bottom of the wall. It looks terrific and has been nicely spruced up by our CUSD Facilities Dept. We love improvements!
THE DAILY SCHEDULE IS ON THE BERGESON WEBSITE: To view or print it, click HERE.
CLASSROOM SUPPLIES: The purchase of classroom supplies is voluntary but if you would like to purchase school supplies for your child, you can find the recommended list of materials on the Bergeson website by clicking HERE.
