WALK TO SCHOOL DAY: International Walk to School Day is on Wednesday, October 3. Join millions of children and adults around the world to raise awareness of pedestrian safety by walking to school on October 3. Walking to school is a win – win – win: It is good for your health, reduces traffic and pollution, and provides positive time to share with family and friends. Walgreens in Laguna Niguel is going to be giving out school supplies and waters as you walk down the road on the way to school. In addition (and here’s the fun part), if you walk to school on Wednesday, you will be escorted by a Laguna Niguel Police Officer! How fun is that? Even if you live outside of the area, feel free to park close to Chick fil A and walk with us! Here are the starting points for Walk to School Day where you can meet the police officer:

THANK YOU TO DONNA B.’S BAKERY for donating a free cookie coupon to every child at Bergeson on the 25th Day of the month in celebration of our 25th anniversary year for Bergeson Elementary School. Our PTA is trying to get a special gift or coupon for the 25th day of every month during the whole year to celebrate this special anniversary. Donna B.’s Bakery is located right behind the Crown Valley Car Wash off of Forbes Rd.
SNEAKER COLLECTION: Our Bergeson Student Council will hold a shoe drive October 1 through 12 on our campus. Only rubber soled shoes are collected. These rubber soled shoes may be old or torn, as long as they are still repairable. You will need to keep the pairs of sneakers together by either tying the shoelaces together or by zip-tying the shoes (if the shoes do not have laces). Each pound of rubber soled sneakers donated will raise 50 cents, so a pair of shoes may raise $1! At another local school, they were able to raise $600 alone. Our school will receive a check for all the money raised for the shoes after about 8-14 weeks. The Green Sneakers organization will also collect your rubber soled sneakers and restore them so they can be sent to third world countries, where they will be reused. There will be a large plastic bin in the office where you can donate the shoes.
4th and 5TH GRADE MUSIC CLASSES: Beginning the week of October 8, 5th graders will be choosing their music class for this school year. A letter will come home with brief explanations of each class. Please discuss these choices and make this decision based on what is best for your individual child and your family. Returning the bottom portion of that letter insures good communication with the music teachers. Thank you from the music teachers, Lisa Gray (strings/orchestra), Doug Jones (5th band, 4th strings), Robin Hervey (choral/general music), Quin Thornburg (choral/general music). Our Bergeson Foundation has put together a fundraiser for music instrument rentals. If you rent your instrument through the SMART Foundation in Laguna Niguel, our school will receive a percentage of the rent back to our school. For more information, click HERE for the 4th or 5th grade flyer.
ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS! Thank you for your purchase of the Entertainment Books! Our sale has ended so if you have not returned the books or the checks, please return them on Monday. We have some extra books in the office in case you need a few more to purchase on Monday, too. The prizes will be distributed to our children in 2 weeks.
PARKING LOT: IF YOU ARE GOING TO WALK IN, PLEASE USE A DESIGNATED PARKING SPOT: If you are in the drive-through lanes before or after school and you would like to walk your child into school, please park in a designated parking spot otherwise, you will block another car from coming through the parking lot. There is plenty of parking in our lot in the morning. You might have to walk a few extra steps but walking is good for us!
JOIN THE BERGESON PTA: ALL classes that reach 100% membership will be winners of a super duper popsicle party. Did you know that the PTA donates $200 for each classroom to purchase classroom supplies? Your donation will also help pay for the science lab, the art program and more. You don’t have to volunteer, just donate your $10 and our kids will benefit. The membership contest ends Friday October 12th.

By joining you helping to keep our K-3 music program, our teacher’s aides for lowered class sizes in reading, new computers, and much much more. For $1 per day for every day your child is in school; $180, you can join the 180 CLUB. The new 180 CLUB will help guarantee our wonderful programs for our children. And, anyone that joins gets free Bergie license plate frame. If you can’t join the 180 Club, please join with whatever donation you can. All of the money goes back to our kids.
