The camp, the only one of its kind on the South and North American continents, will be held at the Marguerite Tennis Pavilion, which will also play host to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Master Series – Wheelchair Doubles World Championships in November.
Any child age 12 to 18 with a permanent disabling condition who uses a wheelchair for sports and wants to play is welcome. There are two tracks—one for advanced players and one for beginners, so a child who may not have played before can learn and have fun right away.
“It’s a great camp,” said David Wagner, the world’s number 1 ranked wheelchair tennis player in the quad division. “It gives the opportunity for everybody, regardless of level of play, to come out and learn from great coaches, on a great facility, and get to establish friendships with some other players as well.”
Some of the best coaches in the nation will be provide instruction, and match players will participate in a tournament for ITF Junior Ranking points.
For attendees, all campers should plan to arrive at the camp between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. on July 6, and depart the morning of July 12. Overnight accommodations will be at Ayres Suites Mission Viejo, 28941 Los Alisos Blvd. For more information on the hotel, contact Jessica Bruschi at (949) 455-2454 (ext. 405) orjbruschi@ayreshotels.com.
