Dear Saddleback Arts Patron!
Welcome to Spring 2020! I hope your January has started with a clear vision of the upcoming year (vision puns are obligatory for all of 2020, just FYI). By now, I hope you’ve had a chance to peruse all the great arts events that Saddleback College has scheduled for the spring. From our outstanding theatre, music and dance productions to thought provoking exhibits in the Art Gallery, we have something for everyone. If you haven’t had a look yet, you can view all of our offerings by clicking here.
But first, to start the semester, I want to invite you to an event that is near and dear to my heart, The Great Diva Sing Along.
I love singing. I love singing with people. I love helping people sing together. I am also a firm believer in the power of singing and the importance of singing as a community. Recent research suggests the following:
- People experience a better mood after singing for more than twenty minutes.
- Singing reduces cortisol and releases endorphins and oxytocin, alleviating anxiety and stress and improving overall mood.
- Singing in a group lessens feelings of loneliness and isolation.
- The additional oxygen needed to sing promotes brain health.
- Patients with severe memory loss are often able to recall song lyrics and melodies.
- It’s a lot of fun (based on my own research).
- People can’t argue about politics and sing songs by Dolly Parton at the same time. This is a fact.

So, break out your inner Diva and join me on January 24 at 7:30 PM in the McKinney Theatre and together we will belt out some great tunes made famous by legendary Divas like: Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Cher, Carole King, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston and the fabulous Dolly Parton, among many others.
Also, with every ticket purchased you are helping to support your wonderful Saddleback College Arts Programs. Having fun and helping students? Now that’s a winning combination!
Dust off those sequins and join me as we sing loudly and proudly next Friday night!
