Upcoming school events for the month of October:
***10/11 Reflections Evening of Art***
Thursday, October 11th, John Malcom Elementary will hold its Evening of Art for all Malcom students who submitted an entry to the CUSD Reflections program. This year the theme is “The Magic of a Moment”. Students’ artwork will be on display in the multi-purpose room. All entries will be reviewed for creativity and interpretation of the theme. In both age divisions (Kindergarten-2nd Grade and 3rd-5th Grade), the top entries of each category will go on to the PTA Council to compete with other schools in our area. Anyone can participate in the yearly Reflections Competition by creating a piece of artwork, taking a photo, composing a song, choreographing a dance, producing a film, or writing a story about it.
***10/22 – 10/26 Red Ribbon week***
Red Ribbon Week starts on Monday, October 17th. Each year we set aside a week in October to present activities to students that focus on “Making Healthy Choices”. The Annual Red Ribbon Week is often referred to as a “Say No to Drugs” campaign, but it has grown into something much greater. We have an opportunity here to encourage our young students to make healthy choices for themselves which can last a lifetime.
***10/31 Mariners Day at John Malcom Elementary School***
Mariners Day is a favorite celebration at Malcom Elementary! A “Mariner” is someone who navigates the seas in a sailing vessel and it is also the name of the school theme: Malcom Mariners. Students will come dressed as any kind of mariner on Wednesday, October 31st – old time or modern day, military or recreational, famous or not so famous (ie. Yachtsmen, Marines, Sailors, Vikings, Buccaneers, Coast Guard…or they could choose to be a famous mariner, such as Christopher Columbus, Popeye or Gilligan!).
