Pacific Symphony in Aliso Viejo Join Pacific Symphony on February 9 for Sundays at Soka — the second of three delightful matinee concerts dedicated to the Majesty of Beethoven — featuring pianist Benjamin Pasternack in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 and the“Choral Fantasy.” Led by Music Director Carl St.Clair, the orchestra performs at Soka University’s beautiful Performing Arts Center in Aliso Viejo, which boasts world-class acoustics designed by Yasuhisa Toyota, designer of noted performance venues such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. February 9, 2014 at 3p.m. Piano Concerto No. 4 Tickets $58; Students and Seniors $48. Promo codes cannot be used in conjunction with other discount offers, but may be applied to both regular and student/senior priced individual tickets. Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 is considered to be one of the seminal works of the piano concerto literature. In the hands of multiple award-winner Pasternack (including the highest prize awarded at the 40th Busoni International Piano Competition and grand prize at the inaugural World Music Masters Piano Competition), the performance promises to be memorable. Also on the program is Beethoven’s Fantasia for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra, “Choral Fantasy,” which was part of a benefit performance in 1808 in which Beethoven wanted a “brilliant Finale” in a single piece to highlight the various musical elements: piano solo, chorus and orchestra. The music highlights Beethoven’s improvisational style in the opening solo in this grand work that stars Pasternack, the orchestra and the magnificent voices of the California State University Fullerton Chorus.
