Mariners of Dana Point, which offers sailing instruction to youth, will have an informational evening on Wednesday, September 9, 6:30 p.m. at the Orange County Sailing and Event Center, 34451 Ensenada Place, Dana Point Harbor.
Mariners of Dana Point, led by Dana Point resident Skip Wehan, is offering sailing instruction to youth this fall. The program makes use of over 40 sailing boats of all sizes, from 8 to 38 feet.
Wehan commented, “The Mariner Program is fun, may instill a lifelong love of the ocean and can develop lasting recreational and vocational skills.”
The program is for youth ages 12 to 18. No boating experience required. Ages 12 & 13 are designated as Mariner Juniors, and pay a seasonal fee of $80. Activities are held on alternate Wednesday evenings, 6:30 – 8 p.m. and Saturday afternoons.
Ages 14-18 are Mariners. Mariners have a wider variety of sailing choices; seasonal fee is $150. Each year, a $10,000 college scholarship is awarded to a Mariner high school senior.
