THE RECYCLING CHALLENGE IS ON! – Malcom Elementary Vs. Moulton Elementary

Date:

News From Malcom Elementary

IT’S GO TIME — THE RECYCLING CHALLENGE IS ON! That’s right! The Recycling Competition between the mighty Malcom Mariners versus the Moulton Hawks is under way!

So save, collect and bring in your CRV (California Redemption Value) aluminum cans every Monday and your CRV plastic bottles every Wednesday! Drop-off points are located adjacent to the carpool thoroughfare, and near the front-office/library portico as well as on campus.

Our aim is to load up that recycling bin–often referred to as the big, beige bin–before Moulton Elementary fills theirs! It means big cash for our schools, a big cleanup for our earth, but most important: Malcom Pride is on the line! …Okay, so maybe that’s not the most important benefit, but competing in the first-ever intra-school recycling challenge has its merit. It’s US versus THEM, people! Go MARINERS!

January 12, FAMILY SCIENCE NIGHT: Come explore bridges, towers, tangrams, blueprints and 3-D shapes at our Structure Safari on Tuesday, January 12th, from 6-7:30 p.m. The evening will feature a guest speaker from CUSD who will talk about what goes into the design and construction of a school like Malcom. This is an entertainment bargain – only $5.00 per family! Baja Fresh will be selling dinner from 5:30 – 6:00, prepaid by cash. Flyers are available in the school office as well as on the school and PTA websites. Don’t miss out!!

January 13, HONOR CHOIR OPPORTUNITY: All members of CUSD 5th grade choirs are invited to audition for an additional choral experience. The All-District Honor Choir rehearses each year from January through early March. The final result will be a concert presented by 5th grade, middle school and high school honor choirs. Audition at Niguel Hills Middle School, 5:30pm – 8:00pm.

Malcom Named An Honor Roll School Again
The California Business for Education Excellence recently recognized Malcom, as they have for the past few years, as a member of the 2009 Honor Roll. The Honor Roll highlights schools across the state that are consistently outperforming other schools on academic achievement and reducing achievement gaps. More information on the Honor Roll can be found athttp://www.cbeefoundation.org/honor_roll.html.
