The Vanguard University Department of Theatre Arts presents
Bye Bye Birdie
A small town musical-comedy send-off for a rock and roll superstar
Book by Michael Stewart
Music by Charles Strouse
Lyrics by Lee Adams
Directed by Vanda Eggington
This delightful musical tells the story of rock and roll superstar, Conrad Birdie, who is about to be inducted into the Army. Conrad’s agent is thrilled about this opportunity to boost his client’s career with a huge publicity stunt, so he makes arrangements for one lucky girl to get a good-bye kiss from Conrad while being televised all over America on the Ed Sullivan Show. Complications arise when this lucky fifteen-year old girl and everyone else from her small town of Sweet Apple, Ohio prepare for the once-in-a-lifetime event. “There is something infectiously and rampageously lively about it.” —Time Magazine
