Ocean Institute to Present 28th Annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival
Dana Point, CALIF., April 18, 2012 – The Ocean Institute is pleased to present its 28th annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival, the largest annual gathering of tall ships on the West Coast, the weekend of September 7-9, 5-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday & Sunday.
Visitors are invited to explore the majesty and wonder of tall ships through the smells, sounds and sights of real working tall ships. The Institute is expecting up to nine tall ships for the weekend, which will welcome visitors for tours, sails and mock cannon battles.
On the grounds surrounding the Institute, there will be entertaining and informative presentations on the history of pirates and the seafaring arts, arts & crafts vendors and an interactive pirate camp hosted by live pirates in costume.
Inside the Institute itself, explore our work protecting the local watersheds through hands-on labs and art activities, and get up-close and personal with some of the ocean’s most amazing sea creatures, including sea stars, jellies, rays and octopuses.

Founded in 1977, the Ocean Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to ocean preservation through education, setting the standard for educational excellence and serving as a leading resource for universities, museums, teachers and all others seeking to increase their knowledge of the ocean.
