American Coast Theater Company announces
Two Great Shows for Summer 2010
Back by Popular Demand!
Boomers – The Musical Revue of a Generation
and
Shadowlands
ACTC begins the Summer 2010 season with its production of the hugely popular hit musical Boomers – The Musical Revue of a Generation written by Kerry Meads and Vanda Eggington. The musical will open on Friday, June 4 at the Lyceum Theater and will continue through Sunday, July 18. Boomers will be directed by Kerry Meads with music direction by Vanda Eggington. Meads and Eggington originated the show in 2004 and it has been playing to sold out audiences in San Diego ever since.
Boomers, San Diego’s most successful and longest running hit musical, stimulates countless memories as it weaves together over 150 songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s. This musical hit captivates not only Boomers, but their parents and kids as well. It is an unforgettable tribute to the generation that has transformed our world. Seven multi-talented performers and Orange County’s hottest band takes you on a terrific ride through the greatest hits and memorable events of the baby boom decades!
The baby boom generation changed the music, the mindset, and the entire culture of the nation. When writers Kerry Meads and Vanda Eggington first collaborated on Boomers, their musical tribute to the life and times of their fellow baby boomers, they never dreamed it would become one of the most successful musical revues in the history of San Diego. Hits from that time continue to top radio play lists and Boomers is filled with some of the best, including “I Got You Babe,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “Stairway to Heaven,” “Respect” and many more.
Boomers will play for SEVEN WEEKENDS, June 4-6, 11-13, 18-20, 25-27, July 2-3, 9-11 and 16-18. Performance times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm (also special 2:00 pm matinees on July 3, 10 and 17) in the Lyceum Theater on the campus of Vanguard University at 55 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. Shadowlands a love story by William Nicholson
Renowned British author, C.S. Lewis (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe), finds love later in life only to have it torn from his grasp all too soon. The Chronicles of Narnia are still loved by children all across the world, but who really was Jack Lewis, as he preferred to be called? The real C.S. Lewis did marry an American, Joy Gresham, late in life. Their love was intense but brief, as Joy died of cancer within a few short years. Nearly crushed by her death, Lewis wrote—anonymously at first—A Grief Observed. That the core love story of William Nicholson’s Shadowlands has staying power seems undeniable. The account of the unusual relationship between British author and scholar C. S. Lewis, who wrote on Christianity and literature, and also wrote many other children’s books, and Joy Davidman Gresham, an American poet and self-described Jewish-Communist-Christian, has been told in three mediums. Nicholson originally wrote it as a television movie for the BBC in 1986 before adapting it for the stage in 1989 and for a feature-length film, which garnered an Academy Award nomination in 1993 starring Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger.
Marianne Savell will direct Shadowlands at ACTC, and Broadway actor, Amick Byram, will play the leading role of C.S. Lewis.
“Shadowlands poses classic questions about God, pain and love, but mostly it makes you determined to embrace life. You can’t ask much more of a play than that.” – SF Chronicle
Shadowlands will play for FOUR WEEKENDS, August 6-8, 13-15, 20-22, and 27-29. Performance times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm at the Lyceum Theater on the campus of Vanguard University at 55 Fair drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. Tickets for Shadowlands are $20 for general admission and $15 for seniors, children and groups of ten or more.
