Mark your calendar for June 17 when the Dedicated Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) and Mission Viejo Animal Services Center host “Yappy Hour” at La Paws Park.

The fun is from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the dog park located at 25100 Felipe Road, just south of Gilleran Park.

Dogs of all sizes and their families are invited for an evening of non-alcoholic “mocktails,” appetizers and assorted dog treats provided by Pet Supply Warehouse of Mission Viejo, Grandma Lucy’s of Rancho Santa Margarita and Just Food For Dogs of San Juan Capistrano and Newport Beach.

The event will offer pre-registration discounts and T-shirts for the June 20 DAWG Walk & Pet Faire on the Village Green at the Norman P. DAWG is a charitable nonprofit organization that provides funds to help injured, sick and abandoned animals at the pro-humane Mission Viejo Animal Services Center.

Free parking is available at La Paws Park and Gilleran Park.

The public is invited to a screening of part II of “Schindler’s List” on Sunday, May 17 at Mission Viejo City Hall.

Shindler's List

The R-rated film, which airs at 2 p.m., is sponsored by the City’s Community of Character Committee. The movie coincides with May’s character trait of “moral courage” and picks up where last month’s screening left off with part 1 of the film, which will be briefly reviewed.

“Schindler’s List” recounts the true story of the enigmatic and opportunistic businessman Oskar Schindler, whose courageous actions saved the lives of more than 1,100 Jews during the Holocaust.  After the film, the audience will have the opportunity to watch interviews of Holocaust survivors and the film’s director Stephen Spielberg.

Considered by many a cinematic masterpiece, the film won seven Oscars including Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Picture.

Character educator and  history teacher Bob Hayes will lead a brief discussion following the film, which will be shown on a theater-size screen with theater-style seating and surround-sound at 200 Civic Center, just across from the Mission Viejo Library.

Junior Girl Scout troop croppedJunior Girl Scout Troop #1666 of Ladera Ranch stopped by the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center Wednesday to donate food, leashes, collars and other items for the homeless animals.

The girls – Ava, Jillian, Sandhya, Arissa, Caitlyn and Catherine – held a garage sale to pay for the items they generously donated to the facility at 28095 Hillcrest.

Their selfless act helped to earn them the Girl Scout Bronze Service Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve, which is a bridge to becoming a cadet.

Staff and volunteers at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center thank the girls for their efforts to benefit the animals!

For information about the center, call 949-470-3045 or visit http://www.cmvas.org.

Did you know there is a low-cost, effective and dynamic way to market your business?

Mission Viejo Television (MVTV) reaches about 27,000 households on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99.  A slide for Mission Viejo businesses is only $20 per notice and each notice can run for a full year.

The award-winning station is home to local programming such as “Mission Viejo SportsZone” and “Coaches Corner with Paul J. Higgins.” MVTV also airs a community bulletin board every night and morning from 11:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. and at other times throughout the day. During the bulletin board, full-screen Mission Viejo business notices are displayed for about 15 seconds at a time, and all slides cycle through with jazz music in the background.

Running a business advertisement on the channel provides awesome exposure for businesses without draining their wallets.

For information about the bulletin board and other programming sponsorship opportunities, call MVTV at 949-470-3052.
