The Ocean Institute will present its Columbus Day celebration on Sunday, October 12, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Learn about Christopher Columbus and the age of explorers. Enjoy making your own Niña, Pinta, and Santa Maria recycled ship models, learn about native plants and cultures, dissect fish, take a tall ship tour onboard the Ocean Institute’s brig Pilgrim, re-enact life onboard the Santa Maria with activities on our Seaside Learning Center, and participate in trivia games.
Cost: $6.50 adults, $4.50 children (ages 3-12), Ocean Institute members free.

The Ocean Institute features a number of hands-on activities, presentations, tidepool walks and educational cruises in an effort to educate and inspire people of all ages to participate in their community and learn how to become involved in the Marine Life Protection Act Initiative. Tidepool Terrors – Extra activities for the day! Children who dress up in costumes get in free and can enter a costume contest at 11am. Categories include: best ocean related costume, best eco-friendly costume, best maritime costume, and best overall costume. There might even be some ghostly dancing! Members and kids (4-12) in costume are free! Admission: The Brig Pilgrim is open most Sundays. |
