| Warm days on the sand under a beach umbrella are what most people first think of when they hear of Laguna Beach. What you may not know, is there are more than 20,000 acres of protected land in the hills surrounding Laguna Beach. Known as The Greenbelt, its existence did not come easy. It was fought hard by residents in the ‘80s and early ‘90s to protect the wilderness and open spaces from development.
Now, instead of homes and strip malls, it’s filled with crisscrossing patterns of hundreds of miles of incredible trails. In the winter, The Greenbelt is a stunning verdant that’s lush; in the summer, the pitted sandstone shelves stand out against the brittle brush. Regardless of the season, it’s an area rich in history, teeming with wildlife, and ripe for adventure.
