A CLOSER LOOK AT THE OUTRAGEOUS DESIGNS CREATED FOR FESTIVAL RUNWAY FASHION, AND AN EXPLORATION OF THE HEALING BENEFITS OF ART IN “ART TALKS: A LECTURE SERIES” AUGUST 21ST AND AUGUST 23RD AT THE FESTIVAL OF ARTS
Laguna Beach, CA — On August 21st and August 23rd, the engaging and informative special lecture series “Art Talks” at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts will be both fun and philosophical, with the art of fashion and the healing power of art on the docket for exploration.
On Tuesday August 21st from 12pm-1pm, Festival of Arts special events director Susan Davis will moderate a lively discussion with the Festival of Arts exhibitors who entered wearable art in the 4th annual Festival Runway Fashion Show. Festival Runway Fashion is distinguished by its strictly salvage guidelines: all garments must be made from at least 80% of materials that are reclaimed, reused or recycled. The artists’ creations will be on hand for a close-up look, and visitors will get to hear firsthand about design inspirations and challenges the artists face as they transform random, reclaimed tidbits into high fashion.
On Thursday August 23rd from 12pm-1pm, John T. Lange, art curator at Cedar Sinai Medical Center will discuss the healing power of art in a hospital environment. Cedar Sinai Medical Center is home to one of L.A.’s most extensive contemporary art collections, which serves patients, visitors and staff. Mr. Lange will discuss how the collection provides a pleasant distraction that compliments the healing process.
Art Talks: A Lecture Series continues throughout the Festival of Arts 2012 season. On Tuesdays, experienced artists take attendees through topics of medium, influences, and current trends; on Thursdays, Orange County’s top curators, collectors, and conservators lead discussions on issues of buying, appraising, displaying, restoring and conserving fine art. Brown bag lunches from Gina’s will be available for purchase or you can bring your own! Art Talks: A Lecture Series is free with Festival admission.
