SOMETHING TO LAUGH ABOUT

The Mission Viejo, Saddleback Valley Elks Ladies held their annual Comedy Night and it was a side-splitting success. San Diego based comedian Tony Calabrese headlined the event and kept the audience in stitches.

Award winning magician Johnny “Ace” Palmer of Huntington Beach dazzled the audience with his close-up magic, pulling, baby chicks and white doves out of nowhere and a white rabbit out of his hat.

The event was attended by one hundred eleven Elk members and guests who enjoyed an Italian dinner of Caesar salad, Chicken Parmesan, Spaghetti Marinara, and a desert of homemade cannolies. The dinner was prepared by Elk’s volunteers Pam Mackey, Ben Blair, Bill Bongartz, Rick Lambert and Ray Mallen. Girl Scout troop #261 led by Leeora Beck served the dinner and were given a two hundred dollar ($200) donation from the Lodge.

The event was put on by the Elks Ladies Club and run by club president Mary Ann Alvarez of Mission Viejo and her staff of helpers.

The Nine hundred fifty dollars ($950) profits from the event will support the Elks National Foundation Charity fund. Ladies club president Alvarez said of the event. “It wasn’t a huge money maker, but every little bit helps. We  have four other major fund raisers throughout the year and all the profits go towards our Elks local and national charities.”

The Mission Viejo / Saddleback Elks Lodge No. 2444, celebrating forty-four (44) years of service to the Saddleback Valley communities, is one of ten lodges in the Orange Coast District of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) whose headquarters is in Chicago, Illinois.
