Welcome to Corpus Christi Alison Gaby! – Corpus Christi CC Newsletter

Welcome to Corpus Christi Alison Gaby!

As explained in last weekend’s Bulletin, the process of seeking a new Director of Faith Formation for Children and Families has been an interesting experience.

With the assistance of our Review Team consisting of seven parishioners, (inclusive of a member of our HAVEN Youth who end up working closely with the Faith Formation of Children and Parents overall efforts) we/I reviewed the applications/material/possibilities of 25 persons.

We have been searching for an energetic and creative individual who has a strong grasp of Roman Catholic-Christianity, has a spirit of joy in their endeavors and is comfortable/familiar working with both children and adults/parents within a parish setting.

An embrace of OUR parish approach to Faith Formation was essential as well as a willingness to immerse themselves within our community and understand who we are and why we do things the way we do. It is my pleasure to share with you the news that our NEW Faith Formation Coordinator for Children and Families is Alison Gaby, although she prefers to go by ‘Ali’.

Presently living with her family in Anaheim Hills, Ali is a CSUF graduate with her degree in Child and Adolescent Development; she has also completed her Elementary Teaching Credential Program at CSUF. A lifetime participant with San Antonio Parish in Anaheim Hills, Ali was highly involved with their Youth Ministry program, became a Confirmation Teacher, a Young Adult Leader and recently participated with their Search/Hiring Board for a Parish Young Adult Minister.

She comes to us with the highest regard and recommendation of the Diocesan Office for Youth and Young Adults….and rumor has it that FKB actually baptized her younger brother during FKB’s one year at San Antonio….a long time ago! Ali officially embarks on her new ministry with us on Tuesday, September 7th and will gradually be introducing herself to the various ministries and outreaches that comprise Corpus Christi.

There are no changes to scheduled FISH or Child Care programs but as Ali grows more comfortable amongst us you may probably anticipate some innovative and fresh ideas and opportunities under her leadership. Welcome to Corpus Christi Ali, we are happy to have you as part of our family.

Second Annual First Saturday Men’s Fellowship Camping Retreat NEXT Weekend in San Clemente

The second annual First Saturday Men’s Fellowship is encouraging all men of the parish to register for the two-night “Am I What I Do?” fall retreat Friday-Sunday, September 10-12 at San Clemente State Beach Campground. The program will focus on the one relationship – Jesus Christ – the promises enduring fulfillment. The group will discuss how this relationship transcends the things that we do in our careers and our daily lives away from work. The cost is $50, which includes all five meals, and camping fees Men are asked to supply their own sleeping bags and tents can be provided upon request. Saturday night mass will be celebrated by Father Fred. Please see members of the First Saturday Men’s Fellowship this Sunday after all masses or contact Brian Brassil at misterb50@gmail.com or 949-212-5994.

For all our new volunteers who sign up to participate within ANY of our Corpus Christi ministries, outreaches or social organizations, please make sure you complete your fingerprinting and Safe Environment Training (SET) (which is conveniently done on-line) so that you can be added as an active volunteer within any/all activities in our parish. Corpus Christi has a policy of full-fingerprinting and SET for all our volunteers…it is an easy and convenieint first step to providing a modicum of discrete review and safety for our parish family. To get the process started or for any confusions or questions, please send your inquiries to Dea DelRosario at: Safeenvironment@Corpuschristialisoviejo.org.

FAITH INITIATIVE STARTS at HOME (F.I.S.H.) Family Kick Off in TWO Weeks!!!

Saturday, September 25th Attention New and Returning F.I.S.H. Families: Corpus Christi families with children K through 5th grade. Come join us as we get set for a new year of family faith formation! This kick-off party is a great time for families to gather and focus on the new faith-building year, pick up any support materials, and get a review of the program. Following the Saturday, September 25th, 5 pm mass, join us for a family dinner downstairs and the opportunity to meet other families, just like yours. Then it’s upstairs for all the grown-ups while the kids stay downstairs to be entertained by our outstanding high school leadership team and a fun movie. (Toddler care, ages 1 to 4, will be provided in the Good Shepherd room.) The evening will cover: Overview of our parish Faith Formation programs, FISH, JAMS and Haven, Sacramental Preparation how-to’s, Scope and Sequence of concepts covered for each grade level, Parent testimonials and support for home-based catechesis. .
Want to spend a little time with our youngest parishioners? Your TLC is needed in our Little Lambs and Good Shepherd rooms during every Mass. Help with our one to three year-olds in Little Lambs or, if you have teaching experience, participate in our Children’s Liturgy program for three to six year-olds. You may sign up to be on a regularly scheduled time slot, or be on our alternate schedule and help out as needed. All adult caregivers must be fingerprinted and Safe Environment trained before participating. Middle School and High School students may earn service hours helping out as well. Please contact the parish office for further information (949) 389-9008.

Next weekend, in honor of September 11, 2001, a special American flag inscribed with the names of all those killed in the 9-11 attacks will be suspended near the altar. It comes from Trinity Episcopal Church, which was transformed into home base for many of the WTC first responders . In addition, in recognition of the NEW World Trade Center construction underway and the development of the 9-11 Memorial Garden, in YOUR name Corpus Christi has purchased a $500 cobblestone within the Memorial Glade. Cobblestones will not be inscribed with any individual names but sponsor names will be listed along with the location of their commemorative cobblestone at Memorial Plaza kiosks. The events of 9-11 did not just occur to New Yorkers…they struck at every American heart, thus it is only proper that OUR love and support for those killed that day (and for their families/friends) be forever present in their Memorial.

If you have a craving for Polish food or dance, you may be interested in attending the 32nd Harvest Festival at the Pope John Paul II Polish Center on September 18-19 from noon onwards. Located at 3999 Rose Drive in Yorba Linda features traditional Polish foods and opportunities to experience Polish dance as well as assorted other customs. For more info please call 714-996-8161.

Just a timely reminder that ALL SCHEDULING for the use of parish facilities is handled through our Web Calendar Coordinator, Maribeth Cooper. You may access the calendar and protocols for the scheduling of parish space via our website, www.avcatholics.org,, click on the ‘calendar’ tab…and follow the directions. Until you receive an e-mail confirmation from Maribeth please do not advertise your event or presume that you automatically have the space. If your event is something about which people may be calling the Parish Offices to obtain more information, please make sure you send an e-mail description (the e-mail addresses are listed on the website) of the event to Betty and Susie…and a phone call doesn’t hurt either (389-9008). This applies even if you are going to be hosting an event offsite for your group or just advertising something by staffing a table outside after the Masses, Maribeth Cooper and our Calendar keeps us all on the same page and helps us avoid gridlock. Please be advised that we do not rent out our space for private functions, parties or receptions….nor do we allow our tables or chairs to be used for offsite/private events (family parties/receptions, etc.) unless they are authorized parish events. Thanks.

Please note that over the next few weekends one of our parishioners, Mr. Greg Heckler, will be taking photographs of our community for use in our 2011 Pastoral Services Appeal material. While we gather parent/permission forms for children, permission forms are not required for candid adult pictures at public Masses. If you do not wish your picture to be used in any of our promotional (PSA, website, etc.) efforts, please send your request in writing to Fr. Fred at the Parish Offices. Please include a picture of yourself so that we know which images to filter from our gathered pictures. Thanks. FKB
