WILD ABOUT BERGESON SCHOOL FUNDRAISER – LAST WEEK TO MAKE RESERVATIONS! You won’t want to miss a FABULOUSLY fun adventure called Wild About Bergeson – where we will help Save the Music and other Bergeson Programs from ENDANGERMENT or Extinction!  March 31 from 7 – 10 PM at the Laguna Design Center, 23811 Aliso Creek Road in Laguna Niguel is the place. Get your tickets for $25 per person RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL, after school each day next week. Catering by Café Neff, drinks, appetizers, music and a bargain on some great silent auction items donated by our community vendors.  ALL proceeds to the education of our children.  Spread the Word; invite family and friends.  YMCA is offering child care/movie night at Bergeson:  $15 for one child; $20 for 2 or more children. In addition, the class who sells the most tickets to this event, will get a free class field trip lunch at TGI Fridays!

TEACHER/PRINCIPAL RAFFLE & THE I-PAD RAFFLE: Want to win an I-Pad?  Yep, I do, too! For the I-Pad raffle. $25 for one ticket; $50 for three tickets (shhhh….Only 25 tickets are sold so you have a GREAT chance of winning).   Just put your name and phone number on the back of the ticket and hopefully, your ticket will win!  The other flyer was for the Teacher/Principal Raffle Items and the tickets are $2 each.  On the tickets that you are purchasing, put your child’s first & last name, phone number and the teacher/principal prize that they would like to win.   Write out a check to “BESF” and include when you return the raffle tickets.  All money collected will be used to pay for Primary Music, instructional aides to lower class size and computer lab.  Good luck and thank you for supporting Bergeson School.

BRAND NEW: SEND A YEARBOOK LOVE LINE TO YOUR BERGESON STUDENT!

All Bergeson parents, friends, and family can now place a Love Line message to their Bergeson student in any grade for inclusion in the 2011-2012 Yearbook!  The Love Line messages are a great way to congratulate your child, tell them how proud you are, and send them your love in a short (20 word maximum) note just like parents already send Shout Outs in the Bergeson BUGLE.  Love Lines are text only, no graphics or pictures, and will be printed in the same font as the rest of the Yearbook text.  But, time is short – you only have until March 30th to turn in your Love Line message for just $10 each.  We just heard about this great idea and the PTA wanted all parents to have a chance to share their sentiments – so please help us give this new program a try and share some Bergeson Love today!  Flyers are going home in backpacks this week and additional flyers are available in the front office or you can click HERE to get a flyer from the website.  For questions, please contact Lily Cifuentes at alexandlily@cox.net.

FOOTPRINT FRIDAY COMPETITION DURING THE MONTH OF MARCH! THIS FRIDAY IS THE LAST DAY for the competition! The GRADE LEVEL who brings in the most recycled plastic bottles and aluminum cans throughout the month of March, will win a FREE Papa John’s Pizza lunch for the whole entire grade level!  We are weighing them every week.  Keep saving!  Every Friday is collection day and we give out Bergeson BEST tickets to every child who brings them in.  Make sure to tell the grandparents to save them for you, too!  So far, 3rd grade has taken the lead with 1st grade not too far behind and right behind them is the 2nd grade and 4th grade.  Let’s see what next week brings with thanks for your donations!

Kindergarten:  10.14 + 5.30 =  15.44

First:  64.16 + 22.55 = 86.71

Second:  38.16 + 12.34 = 50.50

Third:  60.56 + 42.62 = 103.18

Fourth:  27.06 + 17.49 = 44.55

Fifth:  12.46 + 5.19 = 17.65

ARBOR DAY DONATION: With thanks to the Laguna Niguel Rotary, our 3rd grade students received a Lemonade Berry Tree to plant in their yard in celebration for Arbor Day.  Laguna Niguel Rotary has been donating a tree to every 3rd grade student for about 20 years and with this program we have MANY more trees in Laguna Niguel, and therefore more oxygen, too.  We had a few extras, so our custodian, Mr. George planted them in the front planter near the sidewalk on Rancho Niguel Rd.  We’ll see how fast they grow!  There are a few Arbor Day pictures in an article in the Laguna Niguel Patch this week at this link:  http://lagunaniguel.patch.com/articles/laguna-niguel-third-graders-learn-about-arbor-day

WILDLIFE WEEK: Take a moment to celebrate National Wildlife Week by getting outside, taking a hike, looking for wildlife or giving them a hand.  We have a lot of great resources available for the week and beyond.  Check out the website and get your own posters, activities, service project ideas and much more…  www.nwf.org/nationalwildlifeweek.

LET’S MAKE A CHANGE BULLDOGS !! Recently Mrs. Thomas’s class made tremendous efforts to Make a Change in the life of a seal by collecting spare change to help sponsor a seal at our very own Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach.   Actually, during a field trip, the entire 4th grade was able to experience the dedication & hard work of the volunteers at the PMMC.  Not only did they leave more aware of what a wonderful and dedicated service they provide to injured and sick marine life, but they also left inspired to make a change of their own.  Our goal as a Bergeson Family is to sponsor our very own seal from its rescue to rehabilitation and finally to its release.  In one short week, we collected enough money to become a partial sponsor. We will be a part of the rehabilitation of a weak or injured seal.  We will be receiving weekly updates and photos to watch this seal’s progress. If you’d like to be a part of our Bergeson collection by donating money or supplies, there is still time. Our donation delivery will be at the end of March. The PMMC website is: www.pacificmmc.org Learn about the PMMC, visit them in Laguna Beach, and check out their needed supply list. Mrs. Thomas’s class thanks everyone for their help. Contact Lisa Bowen for more information: teambowen@sbcglobal.net or 949-525-0001.

5th GRADE PARENT INVITATION: Aliso Viejo Middle School cordially invites you to the Incoming 6th Grade Parent Night which will be Wednesday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the AVMS MPR.

2012-2013 FALL REGISTRATION PACKETS for Students new to Bergeson: Online registration for next year is now available for students who will be new to Bergeson.  After you enroll online, come to the office to pick up and fill out a packet with your two proofs of residency.  You will need a current mortgage or rental agreement along with a utility bill (we are only allowed to accept gas/water/electric) which reflects an address in our attendance area.  Please note that the on-line registration process is only available to students who have never been enrolled in the Capistrano Unified School District.  If your child was in a CUSD pre-school, you will still need to go onto the district website to enroll them online.  We will still need parents to stop by and fill out a few extra forms and the two proofs of residency, birth certificate and immunizations must be verified!  Go to www.capousd.org to register.

SIGN UP FOR THE PARENT PORTAL: The CUSD Parent Portal is now available for all parents of K-12 students. We strongly encourage parents to register for a Parent Portal account because in the future through the use of Parent Portal, we are looking to provide parents with the ability to re-register students in summer, update student demographic records (emergency cards), print report cards, and download important documents directly from the portal.  The Parent Portal information was shared with elementary parents at parent conferences in November but if you can’t find your copy, attendance clerk, Angel Newell can print you a new one.  Parents should log onto https://abi.capousd.org where you will find directions and a link for creating your Parent Portal account. A HELP link is included in case you have any questions.

PARENT ED NIGHT – “PRACTICAL PARENTING SOLUTIONS”: THURSDAY, MARCH 28:  Moulton PTA has invited us and is hosting a Parent Education Night with Dr. Ann Corwin on Thursday, March 28, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM in the Moulton Multipurpose Rm.  Dr. Corwin will cover parenting topics such as teaching children to accept responsibilities of home and school, understanding the “whys” of children’s behavior, helping children develop independence, taming emotional outbursts and aggressiveness, improving communication and listening skills.

KEEPING CREATIVITY AND IMAGINATION IN THE CLASSROOM: CUSD PTSA is sponsoring this wonderful workshop on Tuesday, 4/17 from 6:30 – 8 PM at the CUSD Board Room, 33122 Valle Rd., SJC.  The workshop will include guest speakers:  Sarah Murr from Boeing, Pat Wayne, Arts Orange County and Jim Thomas, Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator from OC Dept. of Education.  Please mark your calendar and join the conversation on this interesting topic.

WORKSHOP:  STARTING OUT SUCCESSFULLY (SOS): Preparing our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders for high school and beyond.  This workshop is given by the famous, Debbie Morgan, former Director of CUSD College and Career Planning.  It will be held March 27 at 6:30 PM in the CUSD Board room at 33122 Valle Rd., SJC.  The workshop is free but seating is limited so RSVP at

ENROLLMENT FOR MANDARIN IMMERSION PRE-SCHOOL for FALL of 2012 STARTS NOW: For more information, click HERE.

STAR TESTING NEWS: Even though our testing window is still a couple months away, May 7 – May 25, it is important for us to start thinking of ways to better prepare our students.  One way the teachers are helping students is to provide direct practice with sample CST questions.  This teaching tool helps to familiarize students with the format of the test.  This is very important, especially with 2nd graders who are taking the CST test for the first time and for any other child with test anxiety.  Parents were very interested in what they could do as well.  The following two links will provide you with that information.  Pay close attention to the format of the written expression questions.

PERFECT ATTENDANCE: The following classes have received a PERFECT ATTENDANCE popsicle party when they have 17 days with no tardies and no absences while they are In Line ~ On Time.  Congratulations to:

Mrs. Duff’s Class

Mrs. Werner’s Early Birds

SHINING STARS: Don’t forget to fill out an application in the office for a child who has completed some Community Service so that they can receive their Shining Star at the Friday Flag Ceremony.  All of our Shining Stars will have their Star in the MPR for the whole school year.  Kids feel good when they give to others.  Let’s teach them this valuable lesson at an early age.

Bailey Hart – for donating her time at a food bank in Santa Ana.

Macky Hunter – for donating 10 board games to the MPR at school for playing on rainy days.

CELEBRATION BOOKS: For $20, you can donate a book to our Bergeson library in honor of your child.  Donation forms are in the front office.  You or your child can pick the book out of some books that we have pre-ordered.  This is a wonderful way to celebrate a child’s birthday or other special event and Mrs. Scholl will present the book to the child in front of the whole school at the morning flag ceremony.  We have received a whole new order of library books to choose from for our Celebration book orders.  You can order them early and we will save them until the birthday or big event happens, too. Thank you to the following families for their donation to our library:

Cade Mahaffey – Mrs. Miller’s class – In honor of Cade’s 8th Birthday!

Kyle Vom Steeg – Mrs. Bennett’s class – In honor of Kyle’s 11th Birthday!
