**reminder Parents ** Please take the time to sign up your Vons cards (and credit/debit) cards at www.escrip.com as soon as possible. In addition to the escrip donations we are missing out on with all the holiday shopping if you don’t sign up your cards (NO COST TO YOU), January 2-25, 2011, we will receive 10% back on thousands of items you may purchase from Vons/Pavilions. This really is the easiest, painless way to help our school. Sign-up is easy and free. Our school ID# number is 6681193. ON TIME IN LINE AWARDS Parents it is important that students start their day off on a positive note. When they are at school on time, they receive the maximum amount of instruction and directions when they are not late. We will begin our On Time In Line incentive program again to reward classrooms for number of students who are not tardy. Help your child¡¦s class be recognized by having them here on time. Congratulations to Mrs. Koutroulis¡¦ class! They received special recognition and treat today for their great attendance record.
COMET SPIRIT AND PRIDE AWARDS- Every Friday our students show their school pride by wearing our school colors or spirit ware. The classroom with the highest participation receives the Comet Spirit stick to keep in their classroom for the week! Congratulations to Mrs. Koutroulis¡¦ class and Mrs. Dockins¡¦ class who showed their pride today!
CELEBRATION BOOKS LIBRARY DONATION Purchasing a book for the Wood Canyon Library is a great way to honor your child¡¦s birthday, applaud a major accomplishment, recognize good grades or just proclaim your child as an outstanding Wood Canyon Comet. In recognition of your donation to the library, your child is recognized by Principal Overstreet during the Friday morning flag salute and a ¡§Book Plate¡¨ will be affixed to the inside cover of your book selection announcing, ¡§This book was donated in your child¡¦s honor!¡¨ Recognitions of book donations are presented every Friday at 7:45 am. Book Club Forms can be picked up in the office. Donating a book to the Wood Canyon Library is a wonderful tribute for your child that all Wood Canyon students can enjoy for many years.
Water Bottle Wednesday
We have officially kicked off our recycling program at Wood Canyon Elementary School! Every Wednesday for the remainder of the school year, we will be collecting plastic water bottles and aluminum cans. When you bring your child to school, drop off your water bottles and aluminum cans with a volunteer at the front of the school or the back of the school (inside the gates, near the bus loop. GATE Fee Based OLSAT Test on February 12, 2011
Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD) is offering parents of 3rd to 7th grade students an opportunity to take the Fee Based Otis-Lennon School Abilities Test (OLSAT). The OLSAT measures both verbal and nonverbal reasoning and is used by CUSD to identify students for the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program.
During the first week of December 2010, students who meet the CUSD GATE testing criteria will be mailed an invitation to take the Criteria Based OLSAT in January 2011. (The criteria for GATE testing is listed on the CUSD GATE website at http://gate.schoolloop.com .) Parents who do not receive an invitation for their child to take the January Criteria Based OLSAT may nominate their child take the February Fee Based OLSAT.
The Fee Based OLSAT will be offered to 3rd to 7th grade public and private school students on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Niguel Hills Middle School in Laguna Niguel. Fee Based OLSAT registration forms are available in all CUSD elementary and middle school administration buildings, and the registration fee is $200. Parents may also download the Fee Based OLSAT registration form from the CUSD GATE website at http://gate.schoolloop.com. Testing times and directions are on the registration form.
Registration Deadline: Checks and registration forms must be hand delivered or mailed/postmarked to the GATE Office by January 20, 2011. A $50 late fee will be charged for all applications arriving after this date.
