The city of Mission Viejo is gearing up for the UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters Nov. 2-6 at the Marguerite Tennis Pavilion. This event is the International Tennis Federation’s flagship wheelchair tennis doubles event. Other than the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadow, N.Y. – a Grand Slam event – there is no bigger wheelchair tournament in the U.S. First staged in 2000, the season-ending event features the world’s top eight men’s pairs, top six women’s pairs and top four quad pairs. Mission Viejo is the first (and ONLY) U.S. city to ever host the event, which takes place in this South County community for the fourth straight year next week.
The city of Mission Viejo has long supported the sport of wheelchair tennis and for the last decade has hosted the ITF Cruyff Foundation Junior Wheelchair Camp for the Americas in association with the United States Tennis Association.
This is an incredible sport to witness and one readers and viewers should know about. With varied stories about their disabilities, these talented players from around the globe show what strength and perseverance can accomplish. They are inspirational to say the least to people faced with similar challenges and those who are not. But it’s not just about that, It’s about great tennis.
We want people from Orange County and well beyond to come to Mission Viejo, watch the matches and enjoy different themed events and meet-and-greets with the players. I hope you will educate and alert your readers about this exciting event.
