Come and join our Saddleback jazz students – members of the Jazz Laboratory Ensemble — as they perform with trumpeter/composer Kye Palmer on Monday, October 3rd at 7:30 p.m. in the McKinney Theatre.
The students will also perform some of Palmer’s original music. Palmer is a native of southern California and a graduate of Cal-Poly, Pomona. He held the trumpet chair in the house band on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno from 2006-2009 and was heard nightly on NBC.
Also known for his movie soundtrack work, he is a featured soloist on the soundtrack of Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar and Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s On the Shoulders of Giants. Before his tenure on the Tonight Show, Kye toured with the Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band. He also performed and recorded with the widely acclaimed Brian Setzer Orchestra.
He is on the BSO’s Grammy award winning recording of Caravan as well as recordings with Ray Charles, Diana Krall, Michael Bolton, Neil Young, LeAnn Rimes, Michael Bublé, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Walden, Common, John Legend, and Bill Cunliffe. He has appeared live with Tom Jones, Stanley Clarke, Tony Bennett, Seal, Jim Belushi, Seth MacFarlane, Joe Williams, Bob Dylan, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Movie soundtrack recordings include The Secret Life of Pets, Selma, Jersey Boys, J. Edgar, On the Shoulders of Giants, 7 Pounds, Skating to New York, Me, Myself, and Irene, Stuart Little, and Three to Tango.

Jazz Studies at Saddleback College emphasizes creativity through improvisation and ensemble performance. Students in Jazz Studies at Saddleback College have transferred to prestigious institutions including University of Southern California, Eastman School of Music, Berkeley School of Music, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, The New School for Social Research in New York, Cal State Fullerton, University of California at San Diego, and other regional institutions. Some of our alumni have gone on to play professionally with Frank Zappa, Diana Ross, and other high-profile artists and organizations.
