Girls in Ocean Science conferences, Ocean Institute – This program introduces teen girls interested in ocean science careers to female scientists working in the field

Date:

General registration is open for the Ocean Institute’s 2016 Girls in Ocean Science Teen Conference on Saturday, February 20, and Saturday, March 19, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day.  The February 20th conference is for middle school students and the March 19th conference is for high school students.

These exciting conferences are dedicated to inspiring young women to pursue degrees and careers in the sciences.  Sixteen prominent female scientists from around the country will interact with the girls in a series of hands-on workshops aboard our research vessel, Sea Explorer, and in the Ocean Institute’s teaching labs. The conferences, split into two day-long programs, are designed for enthusiastic middle and high school girls who have an interest in science.  Girls will explore careers in areas such as oceanography, marine ecology, astronomy, biochemistry, and deep sea and space exploration.

“The conferences will be a great opportunity for young women who may be thinking of pursuing a career in the sciences.  They’ll get first-hand experience and advice from positive female role models who are experts in their fields,” commented Dori Moorehead, the Ocean Institute president and chief executive officer.

Cost is $50/participant (Members receive a 10% discount) and includes a continental breakfast & lunch. Registration required.  Register online at www.ocean-institute.org or contact (949) 496-2274.
