IT’S A JOYFUL ODE TO AMERICA WHEN THE YOUNG, TALENTED MUSICIANS OF PACIFIC SYMPHONY SANTIAGO STRINGS CONCLUDE THEIR SEASON!

Date:

WHO: Pacific Symphony Santiago Strings (PSSS), instrumentalists in grades 6-9, led by Music Director Irene Kroesen under the artistic advisement of Music Director Carl St.Clair.

WHAT: For its energy-infused season finale, PSSS presents an afternoon of warm-hearted music from its own backyard! Experience a wave of Americana through the folk tunes and masterworks that built the nation’s classical canon—from a picture of life in early America called “Fantasy on Simple Gifts,” to the more modern, rollicking music of “West Side Story.” This performance presented by the high-achieving musicians of Santiago Strings will be sure to amaze and inspire with a program that also includes Brian Balmages’ “Point Lookout” (A Fantasy on Civil War Songs); Aaron Copland’s “Grover’s Corner” from “Our Town”; Joshua Reznicow’s “American Sketches” (A Fantasy for String Orchestra); Louis Prima’s “Sing, Sing, Sing”; John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” and Leonard Bernstein’s “Danzon” from “Fancy Free,” plus, “One Hand, One Heart” and “America” from “West Side Story.”

Admission to this concert is free, but tickets are required. To reserve, call (714) 755-5799 or visit www.PacificSymphony.org.

WHEN: Sunday, May 20, at 7 p.m.

WHERE: Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, 615 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa

WHY: Come support and enjoy the impressive talent of the youngest members of the Symphony’s youth ensembles during this feel-good, hand-to-heart season finale! PSSS represents 30 schools in and beyond Orange County and provides an experience that nurtures the confidence, poise and musical sensitivity of young musicians through the study and performance of outstanding string orchestra literature.
